Summary

Can her first love save her life and heal her heart?

Joey made a vow never to return home, but then his brother is murdered. His boss needs him on a critical case in Seattle, yet his honed detective instincts tell him whoever killed his brother is part of something more sinister than the Elkridge deputies can handle. There’s just one problem: Going home means seeing Mara. The girl he’s never forgotten and the one he’s loved since high school. However, there’s something he doesn’t know - something big.

Mara had big dreams. Taking over a neglected small-town flower shop wasn’t one of them. Neither was losing her parents and her independence. She’s trying to make the best of life, but weird things are happening in town, and she can’t shake the feeling of being watched. Her world tilts even more when Joey - her first love and the man who broke her heart - unexpectedly arrives.

Why did he come back now when she’s so broken? How can he leave when those he loves need protecting?

A great romance amidst an intriguing mystery

I have to admit to having a love, hate relationship with this book. It was an achingly sweet romance. There was so much emotion in this story that I really connected with. It brought tears to my eyes, made me laugh, made me cry and made me want to yell at the main characters for being thick headed. I really enjoyed the storyline. It was well written and engaging. I did struggle a bit with the narration. The narrator's style just didn't seem to fit with the style of the book. That's just my opinion though. Overall I throughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others!

Love and Mystery

I love a good story with a good balance of romance and suspense. The characters were great and the narrator did a great job with both. I really loved the lead female character because I loved how strong she is but it's not in a pushy loud kind of way. The story was do good and ended cliffhanger so I can't wait to listen to the second book!!!

Both the main characters have sad backgrounds of things the must overcome as well as Joey having to deal with the death of his brother. While coming home Joey sees Mara for the first time in ten years and he finds he still has the same feelings for her that he did before he left. With this visit he is able to see where being with Mara will take him as well as see his family and try to solve his brother’s murder. The book wraps up nicely but still has me looking forward to the next in the series.
Narration was fantastic as well. I love the way Meghan’s voice is so versatile and can do voices so well.

Second Chance Done Right

This was my introduction to Lyz Kelley and I enjoyed it thoroughly. It was nice to get the perspective of both Joey and Mara. The pace of the story was nice and even, flowed very well. Meghan Kelly's narration was spot on! What initially drew me to this story was 1. Meghan Kelly! 2. the synopsis was great and drew me in. The characters of Joey and Mara were great and worked very well together. Second chance romances are slowly becoming one of my favorite tropes and Lyz Kelley has done a spectacular job.

Great Story and Narration

The author does a great job of bringing us an intriguing mystery with a sweet small town second chance romance. The mystery aspects of the story made it feel very suspenseful while keeping me on my toes. Simultaneously the romantic elements had me cheering and hoping these two amazing, strong and inspirational characters would find a happy ending. The author does an amazing job of addressing Mara's blindness throughout the book and giving us a very original story.

The narrator gave a great performance that brought out the strengths of the characters and an appropriate amount of emotion throughout.

I received a review copy at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.

Reviewing For Audiobook Obsession

Wow seems like such an inadequate word in order to describe this book. I immediately fell in love with this book. The characters were exceptional and the storyline just enthralled me right from the very start. This is the first book I have encountered by this author but it most certainly will not be the last. Such passion pours from the words of this book. Absolutely incredible.

Second Chance Romance

Blinded by Lyz Kelley is a second chance romance story that I listened to on audio narrated by Meghan Kelly. This is the first book in the Elkridge Series. This is the first book of Lyz's that I have read and look forward to reading more from her in the future. Meghan did an amazing job narrating with the different voices she used for the characters. I liked that the book switched between Mara and Joey's points of views so you could really get into both characters heads. I would highly recommend this book to any one who loves Second Chance Romances.

Mara and Joey!

Mara has not had an easy life. She was in a car accident with her parents and her sister which left her the sole survivor but she had to adjust to a new life of being blind. With the support of her brother and close friends she is determined to remain independent and run the family business which is a flower shop.

Joey is a police detective in Seattle who has just found out his older brother, who is also the Eldridge town Sheriff, has been killed. He returns to his hometown for the funeral and runs into Mara, the girl he had feelings for when they were in high school.

The search for the truth about his brother’s death brings Mara and Joey closer but will they be able to find out what really happened and what happens when it is time for Joey to return to Seattle?

This is a romantic suspense about family and love that is set in a small town. Not only did I enjoy the characters of Mara and Joey but the secondary characters as well. I listened to the audible version of this book and thought the narrator did a great job of bringing the story to life. 🎧 AudiobookObsession🎧

Sweet 😍

This was a sweet romance book. It was good and well written. I liked the mystery in this book it had me wondering who the murderer could be and thinking of why. It is not fast paced but it grabs your attention and makes you keep listening.

I liked Joey's detective skills he's really good at his job, as for Mara, I liked that she's strong and even after her accident she was able to adapt and move on.

This was my first time listening to Meghan Kelly and I really loved her narrattion. She has different voices for each character, her male voice is pretty good, the paced and cadence of her narrattion, and the way she portaryes what every character is feeling was great. And I'm looking forward listening more of her narrattions.

A Thriller With Heart

A terrible accident as a teen robbed Mara of her parents and her sight. Now she lives above her flower shop with her trusty seeing eye dog, often visited by her older brother, who now has a life and family of his own. It's taken years for her to be completely independent and she still mourns the life she once dreamed of--romance, a family, maybe even a musical career. And when a blast from the past shakes things up, her dreams threaten to turn into nightmares.

Joey left his small town as soon as high school graduation was over, and never looked back, building a life in Seattle as a detective. But when his older brother is found dead, and the deputies at a loss for what happened, he takes a week off work to bury his sibling and search for clues. When he steps into the local flower shop to buy something for his mom, he finds Mara right where he left her so many years ago.

He thought she got married and had no idea the accident left her blind. She never thought he'd come back into their small town. Joey's flight leaves soon and Mara isn't interested in having her heart broken again. But some bonds are unbreakable.

Mara's blindness was a topic that could have gone very well or very poorly. I was pleased to see that Kelley created a character that wasn't defined by her blindness, but it was just one layer in a very complex young woman with strength and passion. The small "tells" were there as well, like Mara's wording to her seeing eye dog and the way she spoke of her therapy after the crash. The author did a lovely job of not just sticking the word "blind" in a book, which is very important when it comes to embracing characters in literature.

The mystery aspect was strong as well, a true "who done it" that makes you think as you listen. I appreciated that the crime plot line wasn't cut and dry, tied with a pretty bow after an hour like a TV cop show.

Meghan Kelly was already a pro when I came across her work, but she's really outdone herself with Blinded. From a kid nephew to an old, angry Italian man, everyone has a distinct voice that never wavers. She gave this thrilling contemporary romance with and edge a life.

Interesting listen!

Blinded is an interesting twist on a romantic suspense! The characters are unlike any I have read/listened before and that grabbed my attention from the very start! The plot is original and keeps you guessing throughout the entire book. I look forward to the rest of the Elkridge series to come to audio so I can follow the lives of not only these two characters, but also the rest ofthe town!

The narration was great! Meghan Kelly did a great job with all of the different characters in this audio.

It Was A Great Way To Discover An Author

Let me start with saying that I wasn't feeling well while listening to this book. Now you would think that it would be a distraction but listening to Ms. Kelly read to me helped me to forget, at least for a little while, the pain I had to deal with. She gave me something else to focus on.

When I first started listening, I didn't think that our narrator was going to do justice to the story. But she proved me wrong. I may not have thought of her as being what I envisioned Mara to look like but she became a pleasure to listen to. She had just the right tone in her voice when it came to changing it just enough for the male parts. She also did a good job in showing the emotions that were needed.

What impressed me about the author was how good she was about showing that we can compensate when one of our senses is compromised. She was also good at showing that the path we take is not set in stone and sometimes we have to veer off and take a different route. And when we veer off, sometimes we get a surprise we're not expecting. Now if Ms. Kelley left her story at that I would have been a happy camper but she went the extra mile and gave me a mystery to concentrate on. It was that mystery and suspense that hooked me into her series. I can't wait to dig further into Elkridge and see what plans she has for her readers. One thing, besides finding a new series and author, this left me with wanting to see if she has any more audiobooks in her future.

I voluntarily reviewed an Audiobook copy of this book.

When given 2nd chance, have courage to follow thru

This is an amazing love story. Once you start this book, it is hard to put it down. Main characters have to go thru tragedies in their lives to become who they are today. They learn to love and fight for each other.

Narrator did wonderful job with all the characters in the story. She gave each character not only individual voice, but also personality. Listening to this book was very entreating.

different in the best ways

I enjoyed the mystery and unexpected turns, the heroine was also one to be admired. while the story isn't over this was a great start to what feelt like a larger crimes need to be uncovered.

the performance was great, my only issue is the story does hold a couple of slow parts where I felt confussed as to where the story was headed.

Great Romantic Suspense!

This was my first Lyz Kelley's book, and this is the first book in the Elkridge Series. This is a great and well written Romantic Suspense/Second Chance to Love/Small town story. Mara and Joey are both great characters, and they share a strong chemistry. Mara is a strong and independent woman, who learned to live without asking for help. Joey is a strong, handsome, and protective man. I love their story, and happy ending. The storyline is great, fast-paced, action packed, and entertaining. Now, I can't wait for the next book in the Series. Meghan Kelly did a great narration, and all characters were easy to distinguish.

Cherished Love!

Blinded: A Second Chance Love Story (Elkridge Series, Book 1) is a sweet and suspenseful story with oodles of family & friendships. A multi-genre novel including women's fiction, small town romance, and murder/mystery. With tropes encompassing second chance romance and romantic suspense, Sarcastic humor & sensuous sliver transuding through out the narrative. A subplot of crime and corruption in the police dept. that runs deep beneath the streets in a small town in Colorado that extends across the whole series. Mara's character's strength and determination is admirable. This author deals with a horrific tragedy in a way that does justice to the narrative.

Narator Meghan Kelly performance gives each character their own individual voice. Tone and pace flows through smoothly.

Romantic suspense that leaves you wanting more

Seattle homicide detective, Joey has returned home for the first time in a decade, to bury his brother. He was told that his brother, the Elkridge Sheriff, had been killed by a poacher. However, the more he investigates, the more he discovers that his brother had stumbled onto something big that cost his life. Meanwhile, Joey has reconnected with his high school crush, who has had her own share of tragedy. Will Joey be persuaded to move home for love and family or will the lure of the big city crime fighting be too strong?
Flower shop owner, Mara, almost lost her life in the car accident that took her parents and sister 5 yrs ago. She has since adjusted to her sightless world but nothing prepares her for the return of her high school crush! As Mara assists Joey with his private investigation, new feelings emerge that can, possibly, maybe lead to more.
This romantic suspense is the perfect blend of heat and sweet and leaves you wanting more. The narration is perfect for this story. Looking forward to the next book.

Awesome Book! Awesome Listen!

Lyz Kelley really impressed me with her writing style in Blinded. Mara and Joey have the unique opportunity to reconnect after many years apart and physical changes as well. Mara, the girl who had everything, lost everything including her sight in an accident. She has grown into a self reliant individual that doesn't like to ask for help. Joey is back in town to bury his brother when they meet again. The chemistry is still there, and his protective nature comes out. Meghan Kelly brings the characters to life with her brilliant performance. She gives the characters distinguishable voices and conveys realistic emotions. I loved both the romance and the suspense in this book. I had not figured out who the killer was, which I really enjoyed. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I will most definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator. This is a standalone listen and the start of a series.
