A must-listen-to!

This reading of Bleak House is absolutely brilliant. Sean Barrett and Teresa Gallagher share the chapters, each reading all the characters in their sections, rather than sharing male and female roles as in a dramatisation- apart from Esther’s diary which is always read by TG. Both actors are first-class, thoroughly believable in whatever role they take on, and varying voices, pace. emotions, etc as required. Never a dull moment as it is arguably one of Dickens’s finest novels, full of insightful caricatures and satirical comments tempered by a humane understanding typical of Dickens even with his trenchant condemnation of some aspects of society. Sentimentality is kept to a minimum compared to other of his novels. Don’t rush it, just listen a bit at a time to savour it which I think is the best way to enjoy Dickens …

Highly recommended.

Bleak House is one of my favourite books and a few years ago I got the audiobook narrated by Hugh Dickson. This version is so much better. Having two narrators works so well for this particular text and the narrators are excellent.

Completely draws you in.

I love Dickens however with Bleak House I had struggled to get into it.... but with the amazing voices of Sean Barrett and Teresa Gallaghher I found I was right there...in the foggy streets of London feeling angry with the court system. As usual the Dicken's characters are diverse and vivid. They make you laugh, move you, anger you or inspire you alternately.

(One warning though...if you don't like 'too good' characters and get annoyed by that then you may find Esther, the heroine, hard to swallow. If you have read ' Little Dorrit' and found Amy irritating then it may be a similar scenario for you here. Personally I really like Esther and, if she is too good to be true, I don't mind...it is a story after all. )

I enjoyed this audiobook so much I'm listening to it again even though I only just finished it....there is so much detail, so much sly humour that I keep finding things I missed the first time around.

A very good buy.

Brought to life

Excellent narration from two professional voices that had me hooked. They really added to Dickens' fine storytelling. An excellent advert for an audible book.

An excellent narration of an old favourite

This jointly narrated classic is a triumph. The various interwoven threads of Bleak House only gain from the different but equally inspired renditions of the two narrators.
From the fog of chapter one to the sunlit conclusion, this version is a pleasure to listen to.

A great story

Generally richly narrated. The full unabridged version is certainly long but worth it with patience.

Outstanding!

Fantastic story and so perfectly narrated by both. I was sad to have finished this novel.
