This is the first book by this author I have listened to, I wanted to listen because I love the mafia/bratva and enemies to lovers genres and this book fits neatly into both of those. I was expecting a dark romance but what I got was so much more. Aiden and Issa's story is about an arranged marriage between two people who have secrets and who really don't want to marry but who are forced together for reasons even they are unaware of. The characters are so well defined you can't help but be drawn into their story. It's a story that is full of suspense and has so many twists and turns happening, I found myself on the edge of my seat wondering where the author would take the story next and who was good, bad or something in between?

Aiden's arrogant and can be evil but I found myself enthralled by him, I fell a little in love with his character which is so different from Issa's. She's strong and feisty when she needs to be and yet possesses such a gentle nature, I loved the way she showed an unshakeable loyalty to her family. You wouldn't think to put these two together yet their chemistry is palpable and so hot! The emotions evoked by their story broke me at times, so many lies as well as murder, and tragedy I had no idea how things would end for them but thankfully the author made everything right, in my eyes anyway, before the end of the book.

This author's descriptive writing style is excellent, she made me feel like I was there, her world-building and the way she described each character, each scene all added immensely to my enjoyment of this story. A story which was brought to life so well for me by the narration of Elizabeth Russell and Gregory Salinas they did a wonderful job, and I have to say being English I thought his English accent was so well done.

If you, like me, enjoy stories about the criminal underworld, Mafia/Bratva as well as arranged marriages with a HEA then download this book, sit back and enjoy!

I really liked the constant intrigue in this story. This is a dark romance between Aiden and Issa. There is an arranged marriage, with Aiden and Issa having to get married and the intent is that Aiden needs to find Issa's sister in order to get more information on what happened to his mother and family, who were murdered. While the story was 14 years in the making, this story plays out over a pretty short time but it was a really really frantic time for all characters involved. it was interesting, full of twists and "huh" moments as well as a lot of steam. I thought that given their issues, they fell in love way too quickly but overall, I enjoyed the story. As a dark romance, there are some times when things are a little hairy and violent. I think that people who have read the other books in the series would have been more clear about some of the many characters involved in the intrigue.

Elizabeth Russell and Gregory Salinas were the narrators of this story and they were good overall. I loved Gregory Salinas' performance, who had a fantastic accent and was quite consistent with his narration, infusing it with emotion. His voice was perfect for Aiden too. Elizabeth Russell was overall good but I thought that her accent for the various characters did change throughout the telling of the story, which made it a little jarring. But overall, I really enjoyed the narration.

This is such a great book. With an intense storyline it’s packed with action. The characters are great. Both Elizabeth and Gregory give excellent performances.
