Summary
Bastian had to have been the most handsome man that Katherine had ever met. It really was unfortunate that he was also the most stubborn, controlling, downright infuriating jackass she'd ever known as well. Oh, and there was the fact that he was a werewolf - a werewolf who has bitten her.
Sixteen-year-old Katherine Mayes had never believed in mythological creatures like werewolves or mermaids - certainly not those sparkly vampires that her friend Abby was obsessed with. Even when she's bitten by a massive animal after a reckless night of teenage adventure and her body begins to change in mystifying ways, she can't force herself to believe in what she's convinced is impossible. Little does she realize, she's been infected with a disease a little more permanent than the rabies she feels fortunate to have not contracted - lycanthropy.
Her fierce denial is soundly shattered, however, when she is simultaneously saved and kidnapped by Bastian and his pack. Forced to leave small-town Iowa behind and adjust to their way of life in a hidden society, Katherine must also deal with fighting the pull she feels towards the man - or wolf, rather - who has bitten her and disrupted her life so completely.

Wonderful.
A fantastic story, much better than most werewolf stories I have read. Looking forward to the next book.

more a romance than fantasy
This was a potentially good story that was wasted by overly romanticising it. I'm not normally one to comment on such things but this story tried to normalise a possessive, jealous and abusive relationship in a way that I find quite concerning.
As a nearly 50 year old I can recognise how wrong the males behaviour was but woukd the teen audience that I found out this was aimed at realise this?

Fresh take on the genre
Good spin on a this genre.
Surprised the heroine wasn’t more distressed by events at the beginning and more resentful. Otherwise a recommended listen.
Superb narration will definitely look out for other titles narrated by this talented actor.

more like a horror story
this book freaked me out...the breathy narration increased the suspense and amp up the thrill factor...but it made it...if that was even possible...more creepy

whining female main character
I hate FMC that are like this, whining, they misunderstand everything, self important, selfish, bratty. that's exactly how I would describe katherine. couldn't finish this book because of her

it's meh.
I'm about 2h into it and I've already had to stop multiple times because of how bored I get. The authors writing style seems a bit juvenile and she isn't really pulling off the 3rd person perspective.
The main character isn't very well defined and lacks any sort of initial dept, despite being 2 hours into the story, and the others are stereotypical and 1 dimensional. I think the concept could be interesting but the author isn't doing it justice.
What saves the book right now is the narrator.
perhaps if I was 14 I'd enjoy this more but who knows.
