Summary

Unmasked documents the unlikely true story of a boy who was taunted and beaten relentlessly by bullies throughout his childhood. Kane only escaped his tormentors when he moved to a tiny island in the South Pacific where he lived for all of his teen years. After living shirtless in a jungle for a while, he headed back to America where he fell in love with doing stunts - only to have his love burn him, literally. For the first time ever, Kane tells the true story of the horrific burn injury that nearly killed him at the start of his career. The entire heart-wrenching, inspirational story of his recovery, the emotional and physical damage it caused, his fight to break back into the industry that almost killed him, and his triumphant rise to become a film legend are told in Kane's own powerful voice. Take a peek inside the head of the man behind the mask. Be inspired by his triumphant comeback, and laugh at his on-set hijinks as you unmask the world's most prolific cinematic killer.

Great book for Friday 13th fans

Great book. Kane is such a bad ass.

Very sad in parts - being bullied and hearing how he got his burns is horrible to listen to.

Great hearing how he got into the business.

5 out of 5 for me.

Met him once and his such a nice bloke.

Mr Vorhees....

A great insight into the man that made Jason and my childhood fears. Loved it.

Fascinating look at the life (so far!) of Kane

What made the experience of listening to Unmasked: The True Life Story of the World's Most Prolific Cinematic Killer the most enjoyable?

It was a nice balance of family history, stories, details and anecdotes that never dragged.

What did you like best about this story?

The horrific yet fascinating detail of Kane's accident was grueling to listen to, I can't even imagine what it was like to go through for real! Yet it never felt as if it were shocking for shock's sake. It was very well put across.

What does Kane Hodder bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

It's always great to hear an author read his own story, and despite some fleeting moments where it felt like he was reading (which of course, he was), most of the time it felt like Kane was just talking to you. I like that.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Jason's back!

Any additional comments?

Having Adam Green read his own introduction was a nice touch. All in all it was a great look at Kane's life and profession, I'd listen to him again for sure.

legend

great book, read excellently by Kane himself, the movie trivia is awesome and the story of his burn accident is genuinely horrific. he reads all the nasty stuff with a weird mix of gravitas and glee. a horror legend :)

An eye opener

Really interesting read and learn a lot about a iconic stuntman who had gone through some tough times in his life.

A fascinating and honest autobiography

I met Kane Hodder years ago at a convention, as a fan of his work on film, I was excited to meet him. Unsurprisingly he was gracious, friendly and cool as hell. I've just finished this audiobook and it's given me an even greater appreciation for his work. In this book he details his early life, his work on film in front of the camera & his work as a stunt co-ordinater. Kane went through some life threatening experiences and he goes into great detail about his struggles to fight back to his dream of working in films.. It's inspiring and well written, give it a listen.
