Summary

President-elect Donald J. Trump lays out his professional and personal worldview in this classic work—a firsthand account of the rise of America's foremost deal-maker.

"I like thinking big. I always have. To me it's very simple: If you're going to be thinking anyway, you might as well think big." —Donald J. Trump

Here is Trump in action—how he runs his organization and how he runs his life—as he meets the people he needs to meet, chats with family and friends, clashes with enemies, and challenges conventional thinking. But even a maverick plays by rules, and Trump has formulated time-tested guidelines for success. He isolates the common elements in his greatest accomplishments; he shatters myths; he names names, spells out the zeros, and fully reveals the deal-maker's art. And throughout, Trump talks—really talks—about how he does it. Trump: The Art of the Deal is an unguarded look at the mind of a brilliant entrepreneur—the ultimate read for anyone interested in the man behind the spotlight.

For those who are seeking the Truth

I bought this and listened after a reporter summarised this after reading. What I heard was the opposite of the reporter summary. For those who want to learn about Trump it is worth considering. His wife and business ethics in particular.

what a great book.

Love the book, like I love Trump. He is great and the way he tells his story is straight forward and easy to understand. It displays the thoughts of a straight forward guy, with great intentions and great foresight.
To have him as president of the US is truly amazing.

Understanding the President of the USA!

Donald Trump is a Honey Badger! This book explains how Trump hustles and creates opportunity where others only see complexity and futile battle. He sees value in abandoned property, distressed hotels, managing total value, managing details, hiring the best people, and waiting for the "right" price.

He built a staking rink that the NYC government could not. He got Casinos built in Atlantic City that others could not. He fought rent-control fraud. He transitioned from a background in residential construction into into major, iconic construction. The easy thing was probably to quit or never try, how many of us challenge Mayors, Celebrities, and the press on a routine basis.

After reading this book, you will see that Trump is tough as hell and can usually out-last the opposition. Also, there is much of the Cornelius Vanderbilt in Trump. In the book, he is 40, today he is 70, this dude has incredible energy, toughness, and drive - just like Vanderbilt.

Book was written in 1987, he already talks about hiring/promoting women, accepting a gay friend, being bi-partisan, doing business globally. and renting to black people. These were not universal principles back then and show he is much different than the media want to frame him today.

The narrator is awesome, after a while, you actually think it's Trump talking. It's really well done.

This Explains It

Any additional comments?

I listened to this book after Trump was elected POTUS. It's basically the blue print for his campaign.

The guy is crass, unapologetic, manipulative, and relentless in his quest to get a good deal. Manipulate tax laws or leverage the media to put pressure on others like he did with the Woolman Ice Rink renovation. Trump is Trump. This book was written in the 80s. If you're looking for him to pivot... it's not going to happen.

This book gives you a good explanation of how he operates and I was slightly more optimistic about his presidency.

Full disclosure: I didn't vote for him or his opponent Hillary Clinton; I considered both to be a disaster but since this is the disaster we're living with... the book gives you insight into how Trump operates.

Narration is good, too with a pompous northeast accent.

Great Book!

Great story about patience and never settling for less than what you want. I like how he never jumped into a deal to fast he had several steps he would make before getting completely involved in anything.

This is who Trump was 30 years ago

It is sobering to read this and hear the events he is describing in here as being last week occur more than 3 decades ago. The book has a good tone, offers good vibes and is an overall a good read written by a real estate developer going thru hard times by chronically get his past successes. Now if the stories in here are actually true is a matter of diving to actual untainted sources of history, aside from this book.

Great Insight into our Deal Maker in Chief

Where does Trump: The Art of the Deal rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This isn't among my regular reading choices, but upon Mr. Trump's election (and after reading Coulter's "In Trump We Trust"), commentators I read recommended this book for a look into President Trump's mind.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked this book in the same way I liked the Reagan Diaries - its an assembly of working day vignettes on activities and perspectives, and Trump's approach to business and people. It really provided insight into his deal making proclivities, his involvement -- and clashes -- with governmental entities and people, and his sense of style and accomplishment.

What about Kaleo Griffith and Donald J. Trump ’s performance did you like?

Kaleo's voice is well suited and very Trump-like in delivery, I thought.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Battles with bureaucracy and the making of the 45th President

Great listen

Trump does the intro, reader sounds a lot like him. Finished faster than I expected.
The book is a bio to around 1987, when it was originally released. It's also got thumbnail sketches of a lot of his projects from his point of view. Listening to it makes you realize that to make big bucks, you have to know what you're doing.
Fascinating inside look at guys who build skyscrapers, especially for a guy like me that never put together a bigger deal than buying a home.

doest tell how to make deals,.

doest tell how to make deals, just what deals he made. interesting, but you have to establish your own lessons based on the stories. Bottom line is you have to be willing to walk away from any deal and be patient.
