When Marco Pierre White's mother died when he was just six years old, it transformed his life. Soon his father was urging him to earn his own keep, and by 16 he was working in his first restaurant. White went on to learn from some of the best chefs in the country, such as Albert Roux, Raymond Blanc and Pierre Koffmann.
He survived the intense pressure of hundred-hour weeks in the heat of the kitchen, developed his own style and then struck out on his own.
At Harveys in Wandsworth, which he opened in 1987, he developed a reputation as a stunning cook and a rock 'n' roll sex god of the kitchen. But he was also a man who might throw you out of his restaurant, and his temper was legendary, as younger chefs such as Gordon Ramsay and Heston Blumenthal would find out when they worked for him.
He eventually opened several more restaurants, won every honour going and then realised that it still wasn't enough.
Here, Marco takes the reader right into the heat of the kitchen with a sharp-edged wit and a sizzling pace that will fascinate anyone brave enough to hit "play" on this book and enter his domain.

At first I was not sure, but he does a very good job, in fact he was really good and his various accents were brilliant...
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, not at all as there was so much going on and I had to re-visit several times

Marco is a great character, full of energy (Well he was then) with a great sense of fun and humour as well as his determination which was manic.
If you want to be a good chef kiss goodbye to the family life...
Looking forward to his new series on TV starting this week 5/10/15...

Thoroughly enjoyed listening to Marco's life; an extremely dilgent, devoted and dedicated man and a true ambassador to the cheffing dynasty. I fully expected it to come across as ever so slightly up itself and it didn't disappoint, but then again a bloke of this calibre is probably entitled to a it of that so congratulations to you Chef. Thanks for a great listen and for sharing, narration was superb also.

Marco is clearly a driven man and a phenomenal success story. This autobiography shows the man behind the myth and I thought it was a brilliant, if often painful, listen.
I thought it was a great book, well read and nice insight to a very interesting and controversial man.
A can't put it down kind of book, an amazing honest frank account of a true superstars roller coaster life.
loved this. been a fan of Marco since he presented series 3 and 4 of Hells Kitchen UK and also watched The Great British Feast.
this book takes us back to the beginning of his life in Leeds and the journey to London. many stories in this book you wouldn't think happened when you look at the man he is today. the amount of customers he asked to leave his restaurant makes you wonder how he achieved his first Michelin Stars only because he wasn't in the kitchen cooking while he was asking people to leave. I'm sure you'll agree he had good reason!

This book was interesting all the way through and keeps you wanting to listen that bit longer. It also taught me I was frying eggs wrong. Excellent audio book and would strongly reccomend.
A really enjoyable candid observation of Marco’s relationship with all around him. From his humble beginnings to the lofty heights. Great story and very well read
I enjoy every second of it, he is man with a very deep character, I really admire him. Even here he won all the stars.
