Summary

This is my autobiography. It's not a novel; it's my life story where I want to motivate and influence others. It shows lots of emotion, both highs and lows, how to succeed - it shows how I turned 37p into 100 million pounds. I have dyslexia and ADHD which is highlighted as you listen to the book. Due to this I often get sidetracked and have to go back to the original part of the story; again, this is highlighted. I also use some unsavory words, not in a malicious way merely showing my frustrations when not everything goes my way. The book took me just over three years to finish.

My New Favourite Book!

A frank, unflinching & honest account of what it takes to build a market leading independent business from scratch. A masterclass in both sales and marketing from Neville, full of common sense, contrarian investment gems and razor sharp business acumen. A rollercoaster ride with amazing achievements and truly dark times also.

Neville is a genuine national treasure and this book is a blueprint in how to succeed, not just in business but in life.

Inspirational

What an incredible journey this lovely family have been on, it just shows how passion and belief and a genuine feeling to want to help others can bring happiness and wealth to everyone. loved this book, and if Neville happens to read these reviews then I would like to ask, how much do you want for that old unused piece of scrim? 😊

I still don’t get it

I spent a few hours reading this before initially giving up. Beyond someone who clearly has a work ethic to beat anyone else’s, I didn’t find much else in it. I re-read the reviews and gave it another go as I had a long journey so time to kill and still no real negative comments of any kind.

The book is humorous in places and is inspirational for someone who has achieved so much but little to take away in terms of practical application, other than a few examples of how best to make the most of your money. As a management or customer related text (which I had hoped it would be), there was very little.

Sorry to be the outlier here. If you have lots of time on your hands and want a story of rags to riches, then this may be for you. But if you want an audiobook to learn practical steps of business devt, I’d look elsewhere.

More story than guidance

First of all credit where it's due for creating a multimillion pound business over time. This is more a biography than a guide to creating wealth. I think we all know that with hard work and determination we can create it. Not taking away the impressive work put in here, but as usual with these books it helped MASSIVELY to start buying/selling/renting from the house prices in the 70s 80s & 90s.
Felt I'd learnt more about his life rather than HOW to actually do something.
Another annoyance is the constant "side tracked" "back" parts, there's no need as the book flows well without them.
In all I'd say good, impressive, but sadly disappointed

Excellent, will definitely listen to again!

Inspirational story that shows the importance of never giving up as most would, but equally having an exit strategy as this can be just as (if not more) lucrative as Neville shows.

Easy listen and great story

Easy listen and great story that peels the curtain back behind growth and turbulence of a great business. Perhaps a 'slightly romantic' and single minded view at times, but a worthy listen.

How a normal bloke turned 37p into £100m+

I've listened to this book three times now - and always pick something different up. The key takeaway for me is that Neville is a normal bloke like you or me. He possesses no super powers, and has not used any magical silver bullets to become successful. He wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth, and has amassed a huge fortune, despite being dyslexic and suffering from ADHD.

What he has done, you and I can do too. And Neville tells you how he did it, in plain English.

The content is top notch. I wasn't keen on the narrator though (would have much preferred Neville himself to narrate it!), as I felt that some of the passion for the topic was lost by not having the author read his own story.

Entertaining story but pure gold business advice

I have read most of the typical well known entrepreneur biographies, they are generally the only books I am interested in reading or listening to. I downloaded this one not knowing much about Neville Wright or his businesses but liked the idea of a British story as an alternative to the usual Steve Jobs, Elon Musk silicon valley books. I am so glad I did as this book is pure gold. A raw insight into the mind of a man determined to succeed no matter what, overcoming unforeseen hurdles on the path to ultimate success and relaying the wisdom learned along the way to the reader / listener.

Neville passes on not only lessons and experiences learned first hand but snippets of learning he has taken from other business motivational sources and explains how he practically applied them to his businesses. There are no hidden agendas in this book, Neville reveals all, some of which is very personal and many would not reveal such intimate detail particular about the darker days in the story. There is so much learning to be taken from this book and I will definitely listen to it again.

The main thing I would say about this is that it's real and shows you can do it if you have the right mentality. Sometimes listening to books on jobs, musk etc you find yourself thinking 'well that is all great but I can't code or build computers in silicon valley' the lessons are still motivational but it is hard to relate. As a young UK businessman myself, this story doesn't do that, you can relate to every lesson, it is proven in the story that you don't need anything other than a hard working attitude and an ability to step back assess the landscape and make considered decisions, capitalising on opportunities that may arise will lead you to your goal.

I also think Jay Britton does a nice job in the narration, complements the story well and is easy to listen to.

If you are a startup, one man band, husband and wife team in business or stuck in a job you don't like and looking to change your life and start a business then there is no downside in listening to this, you can only win.

What a fantastic insight

Excellent book which tells a real rags to riches story in a captivating way. Whilst the narrator was very good, I wonder if Neville had read it, would this haves added another dynamic?

What a story. What grafters the Wrights are!

Took a while to get into the writers flow but I couldn’t stop listening to it after chapter 1!

The book really resonates with me and probably a lot of other people, to differing degrees but the underlying point remains the same. Have a vision, be clear on a direction, take the actions required and keep going and growing all the time! Plus don’t forget what’s important to your life too, yourself and your loved ones.

Would love to have a beer with this chap!
