Summary

Infused with Carrie Fisher’s trademark incisive wit and perfectly poised on the heels of Wishful Drinking's instant New York Times best-selling success, Shockaholic takes listeners on another rollicking ride into her crazy life.

Told with the same intimate style, brutal honesty, and uproarious wisdom that placed Wishful Drinking on the New York Times best-seller list for months, Shockaholic is the juicy account of Carrie Fisher’s life, focusing more on the Star Wars years and dishing about the various Hollywood relationships she’s formed since she was chosen to play Princess Leia at only 19 years old. Fisher delves into the gritty details that made the movie - and herself - such a phenomenal success, admitting, "It isn’t all sweetness and light sabers."

What a princess

Charming, funny, honest, deep, beautiful. Carrie is such a great writer. It’s well worth a listen or read.

Sublime!

Loved it. Laugh out loud. Warm, funny and surprisingly frank without being full of misery and woe.

Honest and so enjoyable

Having stumbled across her one woman show on one of the streaming channels I really enjoyed her personality that shone through. I then saw a documentary about her and her mother and again Carrie came across as a brilliantly funny warm honest person. Such a shame that she suffered so much with her mental health. Although I am a massive Star Wars fan I wouldn’t say Carrie was a great actress, but as a writer and a story teller I think she is truly amazing, very honest, very funny and very endearing. Such a shame there was not a lot more output from her as I could read/listen to her work all day long

Another great and extremly honest book by Carrie

A good book that is a lot more serious than the last. While talking about herself and her illnesses she could have a laugh and make jokes. But when broaching the more serious subject of the death of her farther and Michael Jackson the jokes are harder to find. Which makes sense.

Personally I still throughly enjoyed hearing about her crazy life. And hope that she will eventually do one that finally talks about her Star Wars days. Which she at times seems to avoid. As she she skirts around the edges of but doesn't really get into any depth about.

another amazing memoir from an amazing woman

anyone who loves carrie fishers other books will love this

carrie fisher was a big fan of electro convulsive therapy to treat her mental health, the side effect being memory loss, this book is her memory piecing itself back together

carrie fisher was a famous story teller at parties and it shows in how she narrates this book of tales from her amazing life

hilarious

Carrie tells these stories about her life without making it seem like she is boasting or name dropping. She is funny, honest , gracious and this book although anecdotal, is very heart warming

Always great to hear from Carrie

What does Carrie Fisher bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

I am quite certain that it is best to hear autobiographies from the actual person, and Carrie has a big personality to share with the listener

Any additional comments?

A few more stories from her life, but not that much different to what you may have already heard (especially repeated jokes..) from Wishful Drinking and Postcards from the Edge.

I preferred Wishful Drinking because it was the first Carrie Fisher book I listened to, ever since I feel I have been hearing the same story in vaguely different ways... but I enjoy it anyway, she feels like a friend and there is something comforting in her strength.

brilliant

I was totally engrossed in this story from start to finish, Carrie's narration was just essential to the story telling and wouldn't have been the same from anyone but her. I will be downloading many more of her books and since listening have told everyone one about it. Just excellent 👌
