Summary

Norman Wisdom's early years could easily have come straight from the pages of a Dickens novel. Left by their frightened mother and ill-treated by a brutal father, Norman and his brother were forced to fend for themselves, sleeping rough in London and stealing food to survive. This is a rags to riches tale of the man Charlie Chaplin said would take his mantle and who went on to make millions laugh around the world for over five decades. Here are the hardships, tragedies, and triumphs that gave him his inspiration.

From the days working the seasons at Scarborough, to the unforgettable and endearing character Norman Pitkin, the little man in a tight fitting suit, read of his rapid climb up the showbiz ladder.

A wonderful touching story

It is very hard to be unmoved by this book. At times, Norman is struggling to keep the tears at bay himself.

I strongly recommend this book.

The good old Norman

This is the best audio book I have heard, we all think we've had hard times but Funny Norman tells this from his heart.

Absolutely must be heard or read.

I got this and had to listen to it in one go. It is read by Norman Wisdom and you feel as though he is sitting talking to you personally, it isn't a bit like he is reading more like he is just speaking to you and at times he gets quite emotional. I have always liked him since being a kid and watching him on films and tv. Now I just love the man for his honesty, integrity and humour. Get it you will not regret it.

My Turn

A humerous, remarkable and sometimes emotional reliving of Norman's life as read by him. If you have a tenner to spend, spend it on this. A throughly uplifting and insightful read.

One of lifes true hero's

As a child I loved Normans films and still enjoy them today. He may not have known it but his films helped many children to laugh at there own short comings and face the bullies of life. When I started to listern to him telling his life story and how poor his own chilhood was I couldn't help but cry. In a strange way I felt guilty that I wasn't there to help someone who had often made me happy as a child. This is well worth a listern and is all the better for being read by himself and I hope that one day soon it is made into a film as I think it would make a great movie maybe with himself played by Lee Evans.

Great story

Funny one minute, incredibly sad another. Great story and loved that it was narrated by Norman himself

What a lovely book

Out of all the audible books I’ve listened to this one is by far the best. The emotion in Normans voice makes it all the more special. Very emotional and interesting.
