Publisher's Summary

The progressive development of man is vitally dependent on invention. It is the most important product of his creative brain. Its ultimate purpose is the complete mastery of mind over the material world, the harnessing of the forces of nature to human needs. This is the difficult task of the inventor who is often misunderstood and unrewarded. But he finds ample compensation in the pleasing exercises of his powers and in the knowledge of being one of that exceptionally privileged class without whom the race would have long ago perished in the bitter struggle against pitiless elements. Speaking for myself, I have already had more than my full measure of this exquisite enjoyment; so much, that for many years my life was little short of continuous rapture. I am credited with being one of the hardest workers and perhaps I am, if thought is the equivalent of labour, for I have devoted to it almost all of my waking hours. But if work is interpreted to be a definite performance in a specified time according to a rigid rule, then I may be the worst of idlers.

"I didn't realize he was so funny!"

This was a lovely book and really shined a light into the mind of Tesla in his own surprisingly funny words. it was nice to feel like I was seeing more of Tesla than just his genius and strangeness. A great short read :)

    "Simply fascinating!"

Nikola Tesla is one of the greatest inventors of all times. Just hearing what he himself wrote a century ago is amazing and grants a deeper insight into his fascinating mind.

    Story
    "The Year is 1919"
Would you listen to My Inventions again? Why?

Yes. There were a few insights about ideology I found curious. Mostly about people requiring a God or god-equal to give purpose to their life and to categorize the unknown (his god was science). Also he talked about us being mere automatons, reacting to external inputs, with no real free will.

    Any additional comments?

Having heard too many people boast (lie) about their predictive abilities and taking credit for things that they really didn't do (e.g. Alex Jones, Donald Trump, L. Ron Hubbard) red flags are immediately raised when one makes so many claims to firsts and only's, as if many of the things he "invented" or achieved were without the help of others, or statements like "I predicted this in 1898...". Speaking of which, I couldn't find a date the book was written, so when he mentioned the current state of affairs, I had to guess as the time. It felt like sometime between the first World War and the second. Turns out it was 1919. Shame on Audible for making it hard (impossible) to find the publication date. I had to Wikipedia it, and found out it was published in the Electrical Experimenter magazine as a series, which lends itself to the possibility that the book was slightly embellished to hook readers. However, overall it was an interesting (important?) insight into a true devotee to the advancement of man through science.
