"It took months of God waking me up in the middle of the night before I realized I was the one He was calling to leave my comfortable American life and move to Haiti." Miracle on Voodoo Mountain is the inspirational memoir of an accomplished and driven 24-year-old who quit her job, sold everything, and moved to Haiti, by herself - all without a clear plan of action. Megan Boudreaux had visited Haiti on a few humanitarian trips but each trip multiplied the sense that someone needed to address the devastation - especially with the children, many of whom were kept as household slaves on the poverty-stricken and earthquake-devastated Caribbean island. God guided her every step as she moved blindly to a foreign land without knowing the language, the people, or the future. From becoming the adoptive mother of former child slaves, to receiving the divine gift of the Haitian Creole language, to starting, building, and running a school for more than 500 children, "the amazingness of what God did after I made the choice to be obedient is incredible," said Megan. Three years later, six acres on Bellevue Mountain in Gressier is the home of the nonprofit Respire Haiti at the former site of voodoo worship, and in the area that many still come to make animal sacrifices, Megan and her staff of nearly 200 are transforming this community as they educate, feed, and address the needs.
Refreshing, honest, and faith-filled, Miracle on Voodoo Mountain, is the story of what happens when we can let ourselves choose to be hear God's voice . . . in a world filled with chatter and well-meaning advice, the quietness of that still small voice, that comes after time in God's word, time spent NOT thinking about ourselves, that voice that whispers into our heart and spirit is our guide to being His hands and feet . . . and as with Megan, God often leads us out of our "safe zones" . . . but wherever He leads us, He is already there, preparing the way . . . He leads us into wisdom, and it is a journey . . . a process . . . which first begins with great compassion, wanting to gather up all the hurt and dying of this world, and then coming to the understanding that, no, that's impossible . . . and that's not what He's called you to anyway . . . He's called you to work, one day at a time, to LOVE, to give, to be JOYOUS . . . and He's also called others to be a part of His plan, to join in His work . . . I listened with so much joy at Megan's story . . . marveled as she and her friends faced down the enemy in prayer . . . and claimed the land . . . and God's children in the name of Jesus . . . Miracle on Voodoo Mountain blessed me . . . it will bless you, too . . .

Great story. Great narrator. The story will resonate with anyone who has been to Haiti - the story brings you right back to the island as you can picture places that you have been that are so similar to her description. The story is so encouraging to hear of the progress at Respire Haiti in such a short time. It is a wonderful example of God's sovereign hand protecting and healing His children.

I could not put it down! Such an amazing and compelling story. I am forever changed!
Megan’s story shows how God can use anyone yielded to Him. It is our inspiration when we travel to Haiti to educate the children of this hard but beautiful country.
Thank you Megan for sharing your story with us!
Great book and the narration was very good as well. A true story about life for children in Haiti and the courage of one young lady not much older than a child herself to make a difference in their life. Megan is truly an inspiration and witness to what Jesus said when He challenged us to be the hands and feet of Christ. I am encouraged and challenged that no donation however large or small will be a great blessing when given to the right organization and or need!
if you have any ties to Haiti this is a must read. Megan Boudreaux is a really good writer. You are captivated all the way through!
Wow, just a beautiful story and evidence of God's faithfulness. You will not regret taking the time to read this story!
The writing is pretty amateur and the narrator pronounces words weird. Though the story is accurate to how things function in Haiti. I found some of the "aha my prayers have been answered" to be unrealistic. Maybe it really was the case though. Definitely going to follow up and see how the organization is doing now though.
What did you like best about this story?
I just had my first trip to Haiti about a month ago with my 17-year-old daughter (also named Megan) and was so touched and moved I cannot get Haiti out of my mind. Right after finishing Mountains Beyond Mountains (Dr. Paul Farmer's story) I purchased Megan's book on audible and finished in less than a week. Her story is so real and vivid I felt like I was right back in Haiti again. In fact, I realize now that when we were there we drove right through Gressier on our way to bring food and building supplies to a church damaged by Hurricane Matthew in Anse-a-Veau. I only wish I had known about Respire then so we could have stopped and visited.
Megan’s story is massively compelling, motivating and such a truthful testament of how anything can happen when God is leading the way. My faith has been strengthened and my desire is stronger than ever to explore how my family and I can get more involved in helping the people of Haiti. I am going to encourage my daughter to read this book over Christmas break and pray that it will encourage the continual affection of her heart for the children of Haiti and influence her future plans for college and beyond.
Note to men considering listening to the audio book… this is narrated by an energetic, peppy, young-sounding woman. It’s not the deep, gruff, commanding voice you are used to hearing in your war or adventure books. But you will get past that after the first few chapters and will not be disappointed!
What a blessing to see God's hand at work in Haiti. A very well-written, well-read book that is chock full of encouragement, hope, and the love of our totally awesome God!
