Summary

On October 6, 1973, Ted Simon knew there was no going back. He loaded up his 500cc Triumph Tiger in the pouring rain and said good-bye to London.

Over four years he rode 64,000 miles round the world. Breakdowns, revolutions, war, a spell in prison, and a Californian commune were all part of his experience, which was colored variously by utter despair and unimaginable joy. He was treated as a spy, a god, a welcome stranger, and a curiosity. The extraordinary trip became a journey into his own soul, and for many others - including the bikers Charley Boorman and Ewan McGregor - it is a pure inspiration. Rupert Degas, "the most versatile of narrators" (The Times), captures all the thrills and spills of Simon's experience and the timeless charm.

A wonderful ride.

A thrilling and fascinating journey, full of great observations, and thoughtful introspection. Brilliantly narrated too.

For anyone that likes to travel on two wheels.

An epic journey, told as an insightful and honest story for discovery! I really enjoyed it!

Incredible tale, full of culture, peoples, and thought provoking experiences.
The narration is the best I have experienced.
Overall an incredible book, the kind that makes you feel like you lost a friend when it ends.

A Triumph over adversity

Ted Simon's journey around the world on Jupiter is a good read (or listen,) I enjoyed it so much I listened to it twice.
The story is told in his own honest style with a lot of high points and a lot of low points as well.
I'd recommend it.

A hero for our time

Ted Simon made a journey in the late '70s which was the inspiration for many of us back in the early 1980's. This audible version of his book was brilliant and most enjoyable. Highly recommend it.

Excellent

I'm a biker. With dreams of riding around the world (it'll probably never happen!) but I live to hear about others adventures. This is not a story of a motorbike journey around the world. It is about a mans journey around the world, He just happens to have chosen a motorbike as his form of transport.
Very well written, and very well read.
I'll be listening to it again I'm sure.

Terrific audio rendition

I’ve read the book and now I’ve heard the story. Top marks in the telling by Rupert and his plethora of voices. Ted’s journey takes on new life in this audiobook.

Wow

A great journey and a wonderfully written book. Often philosophical and occasionally poetic. A stunning performance by the reader.

Wanderlust

Wanderlust

The story of how Ted Simon spent four years upon a Triumph Tiger 100 riding across the globe is a story that has affected me, it has done so in a way I didn't expect, because though you would be correct to think that I too want "to go for a ride" I find myself wanting to write about it, to document it like he has, honestly so, not through rose covered glasses.

I would recommend this story as much to motorbike enthusiasts as to those who want an adventure.
