Publisher's Summary

'In these memoirs I bounce all about British TV with such success that I wind up in radio. I will also be filling a few holes that I left in the previous decades. For example, I managed to forget in book one that I had been shot. Twice.'

Danny Baker's first volume of autobiography, Going to Sea in a Sieve, was a Sunday Times best seller, acclaimed for its nonstop humour and anecdotal flourish. It told the exploits of Danny's extraordinary childhood and the wild living of his teenage years. Now he is 25, and it is 1982, and he embarks on an accidental and anxiety-induced career in television - going off alarming. With rollicking good stories from what he describes as 'a frankly crackpot life', Danny continues this stupendous chronicle with irrepressible verve and hilarity. Dozens of TV shows - many of them lousy - give up their backstage stories, and Danny's extraordinary family, particularly his father, Spud, react to the ride throughout. Game shows, talk shows, adverts and TFI Friday are but a few of the unplanned pit stops along the way. Not forgetting the tale of Twizzle: the dog who hanged himself, died, then came back to life again.... Clearly, this will be no ordinary show business stroll down memory lane.

Read by Danny Baker.

    "Effortlessly entertaining"

Another bright & breezy entry of Danny’s memoirs. Really pleasurable to listen to. In case this hasn’t been mentioned already there is an edit missed at 7.09.41.

    "Laughing alarmingly."
Would you listen to Going Off Alarming again? Why?

Already have three times and will do so again. I first listened to this on a coach tour of America. The rest of the coach wanted to know what was making me laugh outloud.

What other book might you compare Going Off Alarming to, and why?

Spike Milligan's autobiography. Both are very funny.

What does Danny Baker bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

He comes over as an ordinary bloke you could easily strike up a conversation with. He does not appear to have any 'side' to him.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Oh Danny Boy you have been so lucky. Thanks for the memories.

    Any additional comments?

Cannot wait for the remaining books to be turned into TV Comedy. If the BBC will not do it Amazon should make them.

"Great anecdotes from a great performer"

If you are a fan of Danny Baker, then his memoirs are a must. Flitting between the showbiz and domestic..the man can certainly tell a tale!

The only slight let down is the fact that there is an edit at 7 hours and 9 minutes in when Danny fluffs a line and does a retake. Whilst not disastrous, I would really expect more from a professional publisher.

    "More Baker Banter...."

A good follow Up To Going to Sea in a Sieve proving that Danny Baker is the luckiest man alive. He just seems to be in the right place, at the right time, all the sodding time! That gripe aside he's a born story teller and this is s cracking listen. Recommended!

"A Riot From Start to Finish "

    At last!

I've waited patiently for the second volume of Danny Baker's memoirs for what feels like ages, and it doesn't disappoint. This volume deals largely with his years as a TV presenter and features in a supporting role the wonderful Spud.

It is, a riot from start to finish.

Told without ego, great stories of a normal bloke in a Star studded world, can’t wait to get stuck into the next one!
