Summary
The Gallipoli Campaign stands out as a landmark in the history of the First World War, and it was perhaps the most controversial action; it certainly ended in tragedy.
Joseph Murray was among the 400,000 British and Commonwealth troops taking part, and he served as a naval rating turned soldier in Hood Battalion of the Royal Naval Division. Gallipoli 1915 is based on a diary he kept at the time and his later letters home.
The Battle of Gallipoli was a war of nerves, largely played out underground in the tunnels constantly being built by either side.
Joseph Murray's unflinching and compelling account gives us an insight into the daily life of a First World War soldier and provides an eye-witness report of the horrors and tragedy of the conflict.

Great Introduction
My Great Grandfather was killed at Gallipoli but for some reason i have steered away from reading about the campaign. This is my first tentative step into the campaign. It gave a good broad overview but as is expected with a audio book 9 hours long on a subject of this size it has left me with more questions than answers (which is no bad thing).
A great introduction and it is recommended.

thrilling account.
my grandfather fought in galllipoli, with the Finsbury Rifles. I knew little of the conflict, so I got this audioboik.
wow. it is an amazing accounted of a dreadful conflict. This is the best audiobook so far, and recommended for anyone with interest in history or not.
Jospeph Murray is an incredible man.

A compelling read
Having just visited the Gallipoli peninsula as a battle field tour I chose this book to get a boots on the perspective.
This personal story grips you from the start, Joseph provides an amazing insight to life on the front line. I was humbled by his and his fellow comrades service & sacrifices!
This is a must read & as fellow serviceman, I feel not worthy to wear my medals!

Good, well read, confusing at times
taken from the dairy of a British soldier who fought through the campaign, this provides a good first hand account. The down side is that he does not expand on or explain what was going on or why, assuming good knowledge of trench warfare on the part of the reader; for example regarding his work as a sapper

Really interesting
Really good insight into how much of a chaotic mess the organisation of the invasion of Gallipoli was by the allied high command
