Summary

Confessions of a Transylvanian is a one-of-a-kind, backstage look at the greatest cult movie phenomenon of all time - the live Rocky Horror Picture Show - told by those who lived it. The highest-rated Rocky Horror book on the market, Confessions is a moving snapshot of life in a Rocky Horror cast that captures the grit, language and teenage angst of a group of fishnet-clad performers as they explore a world where the only rule was: Don't dream it. Be it.

Excellent, great and fatalistic!

What made the experience of listening to Confessions of a Transylvanian the most enjoyable?

I think it was a unique and interesting book and I loved how the writers style cam ethrough.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I loved teh book over all and thoughts that every aspect was great, no stand outs as all were great.

Which character – as performed by Kevin Theis – was your favourite?

The lead was great of course!

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

the tagline would need to be of course expect teh unexpected because that was of course what teh book is.

Any additional comments?

I just loved teh experience over all and i loved that the author was reading his own book. I think thsi si very important as for teh reader/ listener its nice to hear the actual authors passion when reading teh book. It was so awesome and highly recommended.

I Get It Now!!!

Would you consider the audio edition of Confessions of a Transylvanian to be better than the print version?

I personally enjoyed both versions. I was first introduced with the print version. There I had the chance to place my own imagination into each character. The audio version enhanced it even more!

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the friendships that developed. It made me a little envious of the bonds that grew through their experiences. I didn't make these types of bonds during my high school years so to experience this through the book was quite enjoyable.

Which scene was your favorite?

By far my favorite scene was the development of the "Spider Brothers". I laughed so hard through that section. It was hilarious.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Hmmmm good question. Maybe something like, "bonds that last a lifetime"

Any additional comments?

Confessions of a Transylvanian did an amazing job of introducing me to the whole "Rocky Horror" craze. I thoroughly enjoyed every page of this book! I can remember a dear friend from high school would talk about his weekend experiences at the local theater watching the live performances. I just didn't get it and wondered what the big deal was all about. Well after reading Confessions of a Transylvanian I TOTALLY get it now! I recommend this book to anyone who (a) wants to recapture the enjoyment of their Rocky Horror years at the theater, (b) didn't get what all the fuss was about and is now open to taking a ride back in time to experience it, or (c) have no idea what we are talking about here but is curious to find out. Read it, you won't be sorry!

A Story of Fun, 1982 and Rocky Horror

This unique and sweet memoir took me back to the time I saw the Rocky Horror Picture Show for the first through sixth times, and gave me a whole new appreciation for the dedication of its devotees. It captures, in hilarious detail, a young man's quest, amidst his likable peers, for the best performances and best parties he could be part of. The author, an accomplished actor, makes it even better by reading it himself, naturally adding heart and excitement to the stories. It's a wonderful respite from listening to news radio in the car!

Freakin awesome! A must for Rocky Fans!

First off, shut up and sit down, if you have a problem with cursing, ya better pick another f*cking book!

To say I loved this book is an understatement!! I grew up in another section of Florida and several years later, but boy do I wish I could have been a part of this! Listening to the adventures of the Wild and Untamed Things, brought happy tears to my eyes. I am a theatre gal from way back, so I know how being in a cast becomes a family. To be a part of something so special, is truly a joy.

As is the case with audiobooks read by the author, I feel like I am one of the gang, in a totally non stalker groupie sort of way! Listening to all the backstage mishaps and drama was a thrill. I feel like I have come to know Kevin, Russ, Donnie, Kenny, Boyd, Sunday, Tracey, Andrea, MarK, Iris, Tony, Felicia, Storme and Ron. So many others popped up, but these are the ones that stick in my head.

You get to see, Jack, wink wink, grow up and become a man through his time with the cast. He went from a fan to true part of the show. It was a treat hearing all the backstage insider secrets.

He is also wonderful at explaining, to the uninitiated, why Rocky Horror is such a cult favorite. Why this live experience can mean so much to fans. It is lightning in a bottle, you just hope for a glimpse if not a chance to touch it. It says it is okay to be who you are and welcomes all comers. Don't just dream it, be it!

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Kevin (Jack) Theis, who is fabulous. His pace is brisk, so if you can't keep up ya better slow it down a notch on the speed settings. You really do not want to miss a thing. This is one of the cases where I wholeheartedly endorse the author reading the material. Nobody else could have given the enthusiastic and energetic read. It felt like we were old friends chatting and catching up on old times. Heck, I feel like we are pals after spending 11 and a half hours with him. Count me in for the next reunion! LOL

This is a must listen/read for any Rocky fan. You will feel that love and energy all over again. This is at times hilarious and pinpoint. To think these kids were only 16ish and the lessons they taught each other. The understudies section was particularly wonderful. To be in that position and step down, even for one night a month, is huge!

While I adored the audio, I am afraid I missed out on things that would be in the print. I am going to scope out the ebook and see if there are photos, I need faces to go with these stories. I would recommend getting both, because this really was a delightful listen! (rockyconfessions(dot)com> get your extras fix at the website!)

Take a behind the scenes look at how a Rocky Horror cast members become life long friends.

This book will appeal to two types of people: Either you have been part of The Rocky Horror Picture Show experience, or you are curious why anyone would willingly see an “unwatchable” movie week after week for years.

For the uninitiated, Kevin Thies, or Jack as he is known, recounts his discovery and subsequent rise in a group of offbeat characters who became friends for life. He does a wonderful job explaining why kids at the UltraVision theater in Florida dressed up and performed a live show week after week. The secret is what happens between the weekly showings. A long list of events from cast war rivalries on a softball field to life-saving halloween costumes.

For those brave enough to have spent months or years at the show, this story may feel nostalgic. These characters can feel like people they know, but with different names. Show regulars will enjoy seeing how their crazy life experiences match up to those of the “Wild and Untamed Things” cast.

Co-author and narrator Kevin Theis clearly speaks from experience. He keeps the listener highly engaged by enthusiastically describing far more of the little known rituals of this adolescent rite of passage than one might guess existed. But be warned: if you find yourself venturing out one rainy night, stopping inside an old movie theater to catch a midnight showing of this movie, you might never be the same again.

Give Yourself Over

I was never part of a live cast but attended many showings of the RHPS. I believe Kevin (Jack) gives insight as to what it was like to be part of a live cast and part of something that went beyond the Friday and Saturday midnight showings. This book lets us in on what it takes to put on such a unique production and introduce us to the eclectic and dedicated people behind it. It's read wonderfully by the author so you know the passion in his voice is genuine. Definitely a must for any RHPS fan.

Great Narrator makes this book entertaining.

Some books stand on their own this piece of work is much more interesting because the Narrator is energetic and improves the material with a great performance.

The material is not unique or new but a great Narrator in this case makes the story entertaining.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

What a story.

Such a funny story, it’s even more amazing that it’s true! With Theis’ descriptions I could visualize the entire adventure, seeing him and his compatriots climbing parking garage walls like Spider-Man. 🤣. Lots of fun to read even if you’re not a Rocky Horror fan because the movie is just the backdrop for a story about friendship and camaraderie at a time in life when we all cherish it most.
