Summary

During his run into turning 50, Chris Evans is on a mission. To take stock of where he is and where he's at in order to figure out how best to get the most out of what he believes are the best years yet to come.

His typically positive and upbeat journey involves 100 days of contemplation, research, focus, frustration and decision making while secretly:

  • Training for the London Marathon
  • Bringing back his cult '90s TV show, TFI Friday
  • And the small matter of suddenly being asked to take over Top Gear

Health, love, marriage, sex, death and even religion all come under his witty microscope as he poses the conundrum - midlife: crisis versus opportunity? There can be only one winner.

Read by Vassos Alexander.

Really good book

Love that it's read by Chris and you get all the character and passion. Great read, this and his other book, both excellent

Much, much better than I expected..

Having previously read... Yes... Actually with a real book, I was expecting another excerpt of Chris's life Story, which to be honest, I was looking forward to, and his journey into family life and marriage (again).. However, what we got was a look to our own futures and Chris's attempt to delve into what we should expect, and also how to avoid some pitfalls...
What interested and impressed me the most was Chris's " Marathon Diary"... As someone who, at the age of 51 is undertaking my first London Marathon in April 2017, I was interested, excited, frightened, motivated and humbled to read his journey from a shuffle round a lake to completing the biggest marathon of them all...
Aĺl in all, a great read..

Should be available on NHS

What made the experience of listening to Call the Midlife the most enjoyable?

The openness of Chris and his enthusiasm for life.

What other book might you compare Call the Midlife to, and why?

None it has its own very special charm

What three words best describe Vassos Alexander’s voice?

He's not Chris

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes laugh in a number of occasions.

Any additional comments?

Loved the book and if it had been read by Chris it would have made my top 10 audio books. Vassos is ok but does not have Chris's zing

a strangely motivational ebook

I wasn't expecting to be motivated to take chances, believe in myself, set goals, think about relationships and have a positive outlook from a book by Chris Evans. I do already like the guy from his radio programme, but now have different perception of him too. And read by Vasos from the radio programme actually works and a familiar voice.

Please please please change the narrator.

Is this the most irritating narrator ever? Maybe not but he must be up there competing for the title. Ruined the experience so much I find it hard to rate the actually quality of the book. He sounds so unlike what you know Chris Evans to sound like or how he expresses himself, it is hard to believe he is the author of the book.
If you are thinking of reading this book, do just that, read it. Don't download the audiobook.

Great listen

Love the book and the narrator. Especially his curry moment and his story around top gear

Surprising find!

I really like Chris Evans based in Radio 2 show but was not convinced that his autobiography would grip me.

However, it is a fascinating listen and actually makes you think about your own life too!

However it is so addictive I failed to get proper sleep several nights in a row...
Should come with sleep deprivation warning :-)

Not as Good as the last book

I was really looking forward to Chris Evans new book - I really enjoyed 'its not what you think', maybe its because he's not reading the book himself I know Vassos Alexander is his friend from his radio show but it just did not work for me.
The book itself just seems to be very rambling and goes on and on - very little content, big disappointment
