Summary

One woman's story of finding beauty and herself - and a practical guide to living a better life, the Italian way!

Kamin Mohammadi, a magazine editor in London, should have been on top of the world. But after heartbreak and loneliness, the stress of her 'dream life' was ruining her physical and mental health. Gifted a ticket to freedom - a redundancy package and the offer of a friend's apartment in Florence - Kamin took a giant leap. It did not take her long to notice how differently her new Italian neighbours approached life: enjoying themselves, taking their time to eat and drink, taking their lives at a deliberately slower pace.

Filled with wonderful characters - from the local bartender/barista who becomes her love adviser to the plumbers who fix her heating and teach her to make pasta al pomodoro - here is a mantra for savouring the beauty and colour of every day that Italians have followed for generations, a guide to the slow life for busy people, a story of finding love (and self-love) in unlikely places and an evocative account of a year living an Italian life.

Mostly very good

I’ve deducted a star because of the preachy and long-winded epilogue about food and exercise regime. “Bella Figura is not a diet...” - surely no one thought it was? Although the book is a tad more Bridget Jones Diary than it needed to be. Still a diverting read though.

Not really much about the Bella Figura

I was dissapointed, mainly because I expected more of an insight into the Bella Figura.
It was basically a story about a ladys time in Florence.
OK but I thought it was going to be different to a host of comparable books available.

The Good Life

If you've ever dreamt of escaping to Italy, or having the time to discover what really makes life worth living, this is the book for you - beautifully narrated by the author, too.

Can’t listen to this

I really wanted to like this and the story sounded as if it could have been nicely escapist. Sadly I couldn’t listen to the narrator. It is a very wooden performance and very off-putting to listen to.

Not just entertaining

I found Bella figura not just entertaining but educational.
It speaks a lot of real sense about how to live a healthy life style not just from a food aspect but from the mental, emotional and phisical aspects too. I am a 68 year old male pensioner, so I'm not like the character in this book in any way but her advice on looking after ones self IS very beneficial to all ages and both sexes. I for one am glad I stumbled on this book and had the good sense to listen right to the end even although it's not the usual kind of book I listen to, nor did I think it would have any relevance to my life but how wrong one can be. I am off to buy my first bottle of (Green) extra virgin olive oil for drinking. I often cook with it and drizzle it on food as I love Italian food, but to just drink it had never crossed my mind. So from now on it's only the finest olive oil for cooking, drizzling and DRINKING from here on, along with the rest of the Bella figura lifestyle recommendations. In three months time I will review any changes to my health and fitness and again in 6 and then 12 months. That should have given it a really good chance to prove it's worth. I was thinking of going over to Spain or the south of France 🇫🇷 to live as I've pretty much had it with 🇬🇧 but maybe now I just might consider living in Italy 🇮🇹. How better to live a Bella figura lifestyle? 😁

fabulous book about love, food and Florence

I bought this book because I'm from Florence and I live in UK. I loved it. It describes my city and our Italian way so beautifully that I fell in love again with what I left behind me. easy and tasty recipes at the end of every chapter. I recommend it strongly.

Posh lady has enjoyable time in Florence

Stressed city girl moves to Florence and writes a book about how she changed her life for the better by eating better, not working (apart from some writing) so having more time to socialise, excersing more and eventually finding an Italian man that wanted more from her than just sex.

Don't waste your time.

A spoilt lady with the need for attention and emotional maturity of a 15-year-old goes to Italy, gets her heart broken by a womaniser, despite all the massive, glaring red flags, and then complains about it (and other things) for the rest of the book.
The first three chapters are somewhat bearable since she talks mostly about Italian food and lifestyle. After that, however, it's drivel. Don't waste your time.

Stick with it’s worth the journey

I wasn’t at all sure if I was going to enjoy this to start with but I loved it! The author is the reader so obviously not as polished as most professional Audible narrators but I grew to love her honest delivery. I am trying to incorporate Bella Figura into my own life. Such a feeling of well being ( even without the Italian weather or beauty of Florence!) comes from slowing down, appreciating what is around you and what you eat and drink, and most importantly being kind to yourself. I shall listen again as necessary!

A Fantastic Travel Life Log

I enjoyed this book. Florence is a moving oldness that is captured her by the author. The food recipes are absolutely magical. This is an education. A teachable lesson even.

Kamin reads her story with passion and a love for change. I will be paying more attention to my attitudes to diet, exercise and wellbeing more enjoyably that before.
