Summary
A new memoir from Sunday Times and New York Times best-selling author Cathy Glass.
Eight-year-old Aimee was on the child protection register at birth. Her five older siblings were taken into care many years ago. So no one can understand why she was left at home to suffer for so long. It seems Aimee was forgotten.
The social services are looking for a very experienced foster carer to look after Aimee and, when she reads the referral, Cathy understands why. Despite her reservations, Cathy agrees to Aimee on - there is something about her that reminds Cathy of Jodie (the subject of ‘Damaged' and the most disturbed child Cathy has cared for), and reading the report instantly tugs at her heart strings.
When she arrives, Aimee is angry. And she has every right to be. She has spent the first eight years of her life living with her drug-dependent mother in a flat that the social worker described as ‘not fit for human habitation'.
Aimee is so grateful as she snuggles into her bed at Cathy's house on the first night that it brings Cathy to tears. Aimee's aggressive mother is constantly causing trouble at contact, and makes sweeping allegations against Cathy and her family in front of her daughter as well.
It is a trying time for Cathy, and it makes it difficult for Aimee to settle. But as Aimee begins to trust Cathy, she starts to open up. And the more Cathy learns about Aimee's life before she came into care, the more horrified she becomes.
It's clear that Aimee should have been rescued much sooner and as her journey seems to be coming to a happy end, Cathy can't help but reflect on all the other ‘forgotten children' that are still suffering…

Very Moving
This is the story of 8 year old Aimee who has behavioural problems. As Cathy and her daughter Paula noticed in the book, Aimee was similar to Jodie, another girl of the same age Cathy fostered. Aimee has endured a lot, abuse, her mother's drug use and now and then we see bonds between Cathy and Aimee. Cathy does a great job of taking care of Aimee and this book was a great read.

Another poignant listen
How wonderful to be able to share the daily lives of Cathy, her family and the children she takes into her care.
I rarely listen to our read non fiction, but these books are the exception. I laughed, cried and my heart filled with joy as little Aimee went to live with her forever family.
Told in an easy to listen narrative, it includes all the relevant professionals, and the realistic struggles of the care system while bringing the story to life with the detail of everyday life.
The narrator does a beautiful job in bringing it all together.
i have only one complaint... i stay up too late listening as these books are very hard to put down.

Cathy glass
Cathy is a fantastic author and judging by her books she's an amazing foster carer. The world needs more kind people in it. The story was heartbreaking at times but also heart warming at other times x

Glad I gave the author a second chance!
Where does Another Forgotten Child rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This book is the story of an unloved child who gradually finds her feet and, at last, her 'forever family'. The fact that these are real people, even if details have been changed, make the unadorned, simplistic style compelling. I can't compare it to literary masterpieces, or even to fiction - and it is unlike any other non-fiction audiobooks that I have listened to, other than those by the same author. I thought this book was much better written than the previous Cathy Glass book that I heard 'A Baby's Cry', but I don't think it's fair to compare it to other books as it's not comparing like with like. A very good audiobook and one that will stay with me for some time.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I very much liked the spunky attitude of little Aimee.
What about Denica Fairman’s performance did you like?
Denica Fairman reads well, given the undemanding nature of the text, adding expression and character to each voice.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When little Aimee first arrives at Cathy's house. Her openness and awe at seemingly simple things like having a bath and having a clean bed to sleep in were very touching.
Any additional comments?
I have learned so much from listening to this book. Cathy Glass is inspirational, as are the stories of the children who fought back against what life had thrown at them and learned to be whole human beings, capable of loving and being loved. It gave me hope.

Another wonderful story from Cathy Glass
What a truly remarkable person Cathy is, so patience & understanding, it certainly takes a special kind of person to foster & Cathy is one of these angel's. It shows that the care system is still not working properly with most of the social workers still not listening to the carer's that are with these children 24/7.
Also please don't change the narrator as she has a perfect voice to narrator Cathy's books.
