Publisher's Summary

When Special Forces soldier Jason Morgan was left crippled by a mission that went wrong, battling depression and wheelchair-bound, his wife left him, and overnight he became a paraplegic father with three young boys to raise. He had lost the two very things that defined him: his military service plus his family and marriage.

As the pain spiked to unbearable levels, he agreed to have surgery to block it. But the doctors' promises that he would keep his mobility proved misplaced. After the surgery the pain was less, yet he'd lost the ability to move his legs.

It was then that Jason reached his lowest ebb. But it was then, too, that he heard about a not-for-profit call Canine Companions for Independence (CCI), one that specializes in providing service dogs to wounded veterans. Jason was convinced that his disability was serious enough to qualify him for a service dog and that CCI had just the animal for him.

Yet when he flew to their Oceanside, California, facility to meet his dog, Jason had no idea how much his life was about to change. So low was he that he wished that the airplane carrying him would tumble out of the sky and bring it all to an end. After meeting his black Labrador service dog, Napal, he would never do so again.

This is the story of how Napal enabled Jason to rebuild his life, to reconnect with his family and to find true peace against all the odds.

    "An inspirational, heartwarming book"

Definitely worth hearing this incredible story. There are so many highs and lows and I kept having to remind myself that this was not made up, it actually happened. Some happenings are nothing short of miraculous. Full of emotion - yes, tears too - but mainly just uplifting and inspirational and a grounder to remind you that many of us have little to moan about. My only reservation was that the style of writing took me a long while to get into (the story was always gripping) and the narration was uninspiring and rather wooden.

    "Great story"

A remarkable story about s remarkable man. Jason faced incredible challenges, and numerous low-points, and as an airborne warrior picked himself up and faced up to each & every one.
I would have given this straight 4's but the narration lets it down. Wooden, stilted, fragmented sentence narrative. It deserved better.

    "Astounding, amazing, a recommended read"

A fantastic story eloquently and passionately written and then spoken. Never has a book had me laughing out loud, giving my opinion or commenting on the storyline and then crying tears of sorrow. A wonderful book. Highly recommended!

    "Inspirational story, a great listen."
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Obviously a true story about the plight of a soldier his injuries, the adversities which he faces and above all the love and devotion of his service dog. A very inspirational story that will bring a tear to the eye of even the most hardest of souls.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If I could have then yes I could have played it the whole way through in one go.

    Any additional comments?

Great narration, a great listen/read, a lot can be gotten from this book.

    "Absolutely brilliant and beautiful"

Sometimes sad but also funny true story of the journey of a military veteran paraplegic, Jason, from injury to recovery, physical and psychological, aided by his support dog. Paralleled by the journey of Npaul from puppyhood to highly intelligent and intuitive support dog nurtured by Jim, another military veteran paraplegic and puppy raiser, and how their emotional journeys crossed in sharing the life of this beautiful dog.
