Story
The first rule of Sunday Lunch Club is...don't make any afternoon plans.
Every few Sundays, Anna and her extended family and friends get together for lunch. They talk, they laugh, they bicker, they eat too much. Sometimes the important stuff is left unsaid, other times it's said in the wrong way.
Sitting between her ex-husband and her new lover, Anna is coming to terms with an unexpected pregnancy at the age of 40. Also at the table are her ageing grandmother, her promiscuous sister, her flamboyantly gay brother and a memory too terrible to contemplate.
Until, that is, a letter arrives from the person Anna scarred all those years ago. Can Anna reconcile her painful past with her uncertain future?
Juliet Ashton weaves a story of love, friendship and community that will move you to laughter and to tears. Think Cold Feet meets David Nicholls, with a dash of the joy of Jill Mansell added for good measure.

Aisling is 28 and she’s a complete...Aisling. She lives at home in Ballygobbard (or Ballygobackwards, as some gas tickets call it) with her parents and commutes to her good job at PensionsPlus in Dublin. Aisling goes out every Saturday night with her best friend, Majella, who is a bit of a hames (she’s lost two phones already this year - Aisling has never lost a phone). They love hoofing into the Coors Light if they’re 'Out' or the vodka and Diet Cokes if they’re 'Out Out'.

Emma has a job in television which is distinctly less glamourous and exciting than it sounds. She's managed to claw her way up the ranks from Tea Maker and Rubbish Collector to Second Assistant Director (heavy on the assistant. Even heavier on the second.). So when she finds she's accidentally very pregnant and at the same time accidentally very sacked (well, less accidentally: she did tell her boss to stick his job up his bum), she knows things are going to have to change.

BEST AUDIO BOOK I’VE EVER LISTENED TO!
Sorry about the shouty title but this truly was the best audiobook I’ve ever listened to. Everything about it was perfect. The story and the performance. I don’t think I’ve ever listened to a book where I’ve laughed and bawled my eyes out at the same time. Proper loud ugly crying and loud laughing. I came to care about Olive and Birdie so much it was heartbreaking when the book finished. I listen to a lot of audiobooks. Usually I potter on with my day whilst I’m listening. If I’m not driving I’m working in my garden, doing the housework, cooking, washing up, knitting, painting, having a bath. This is the first time I have just stopped. Sat on the sofa and listened to the last 3 hours in complete soggy rapture.

I bought this as a wildcard in the Audible 2-for-1 and then ended up finishing it in under two days. This was everything I could have wanted in a book- it had heart, humour and hilarity in perfect proportions. The narration was so spot on and felt so natural, I couldn’t help but laugh along. 10/10, definitely recommend!

INSANELY AMAZING AND HILARIOUS
ugh. this book. No, not "ugh" in a bad way. "UGH" like wow I didn't know I could laugh so unbelievably hard, smile, cry and just overall enjoy a book so much. Also, the narration was INSANE (hence the title of my review). The narrator did an amazing job at all the different characters and accents. I felt like her voice was so well suited for the main character, Olive. There have been few books I would rather listen to than read, but man, this book. I feel like it's truly a treat to listen to the narration and wonderful story. It's so inspiring too. The book really makes you want to live life. Okay, why are you still reading my review?! Just download it already!

Fun Summer Listen, but I wish I'd read it instead
I listened to this as an audiobook, which may have been a mistake. To be clear, the book itself and most of its characters are pretty ridiculous - as many have mentioned, it's quite over-the-top - but the accents done by the narrator made it almost unbearable for me at times. I think reading it for myself would have allowed me the freedom to interpret some of the crazy characters in my own way rather than the narrator's impression of what they would sound like. That being said, the story is fun (if crazy), and the characters are quite memorable. I particularly loved Birdie and wish we had seen a bit more of her. While this is a "romance" novel, the love stories I loved the best were the loves between friends and the message about choosing your tribe and loved ones. Overall, even though I found myself rolling my eyes a lot through the story, I'm already remembering it rather fondly. Fun summer escape novel for sure!
