Summary

The Woman: She was a beautiful, gifted descendant of Lady Astor. But Elizabeth Haysom was also a spoiled, willful daughter of privilege.

The Lover: He was the brilliant young son of a German diplomat. But his love for Elizabeth would draw Jens Soering into a web of madness and murder.

The Murder: When Elizabeth's parents were found savagely butchered in their elegant Virginia country home, she and Jens fled to Europe - igniting an international manhunt that spanned three continents.

The Trial: The sensational courtroom drama that followed painted a twisted portrait of two golden youths consumed by hatred and perverse fantasies. Elizabeth's startling testimony - and intimations of acts and desires that went beyond mere murder - would reveal a tangled web of dark secrets and deadly obsession.

Contains mature themes.

Great story, better narration

Love this true crime story she hearing all the details was wonderful. The narrator was truly one of the best I've heard. He could switch dialects and accents as if it were different actors reading the parts. Made for a great storytelling experience.

Life is Cheap

How terrible that life is cheap that the victims get little sympathy and the perpetrators are felt sorry for. How appalling that children whose parents give them everything are in return hated . One has to ask the question whether indulging children is a good thing .

Too repetitive with story.

Wow, thought this book was never going to end. Story was way too repetitive. Definitely NOT worth the money.

Medium Level Interest

This account of cold-blooded murder and subsequent coverup is ... kind of boring.
We hear the same descriptions of the perpetrators so frequently that it can only be described as filler material. Eventually, interest wanes to the point of indifference.

Apart from a few glaring mispronunciations, narration is fine.

terrible monotonous narration.

Tried. The narration was so monotonous, I felt I might chew my own arm off.

Not my thing

I had to stop reading like 3 times. It felt like I was supposed to like the police in this book but they were so incompetent, unethical, silly, and homophobic that it made the book genuinely hard to read. The only tension came from whether the police could overcome their own fumbling to solve a rather straightforward double murder

exhausting!

In need of a good editor. too many minor and superfluous details. twists and turns in the story line that should add to the plot line are simply exhausting.
