Summary

Author Melody Beattie's Codependent No More spent an astonishing three years on the New York Times best seller list and made codependent a household word. In this thoughtful sequel, she offers further helpful advice for making permanent, positive lifestyle changes.

Alcoholism, drug abuse, and similar destructive practices can render families dysfunctional. When the children of these families become adults, they sometimes develop self-defeating survival tactics, such as low self-esteem or an obsession with controlling another person's behavior. To help those stuck in codependent cycles identify and eliminate such troubling issues from their relationships, Beattie shares wisdom gained from years of experience. Beyond Codependency is a sensitive and supportive audiobook that encourages listeners to adopt a practical approach when confronting their own unhealthy and unproductive behaviors. As she did with the original, narrator Christina Moore lends her reassuring voice to this important book.

Thank you Melody, again.

Melodies first book, "Codependant No More", was suggested to me early in my recovery from drug, alcohol and caretaking addictions. I read it about ten years later, thinking it was not what I had needed at the time when it was suggested. Oh the endless misery it could have saved me if I'd have read it sooner. Don't wait to read both of these books. Please read them both now as though your life depended on it, because it very well may. My life has always been rather charmed. I almost felt bad for having problems getting my life together because from outside appearances, I had no reason to not thrive. But my life, my very existence was never about me, outside of the self loathing I was partaking in. Melody opened my eyes to the real root of all my problems in her books. I gained control of my life, for the first time in my life, due to the knowledge within her writing that I gained and applied. I'm now in control of how I feel, what I do, why I do it, how I do it, and no one can cause me to be anxious or angry or any other feeling. I feel like some kind of wise ninja, lol... Thank you so much Melody.

more parameters to cover!

Melody and Christina! thank you both! awesome job! I like how Melody brought in many examples and scenarios and even included the kids in our codependent lives. I like how she says we need relationships. I will work on it. I had figured i was done, but I won't know if I am healed if I don't try! and Christina, you are perfect for narrating Melody's work. much love for you 2! xoxo

filled with wisdom

This book is filled with insight on humanity, not just people who grew up with or married alcoholics. I loved her ending too. We are here to love ourselves and each other, just as God intended.

too much religion for my taste

the solution to problems should be in our own hands instead of some "external" force.

Amazing book and encouragement

Melody Beattie is the expert and covers all aspects of Co-dependency and encourages recovery. We ALL need help with this life and our difficult relationships and loving and caring for ourselves. I highly recommend this book and all her books on Co-Dependency. She’s been there and has lived it. The reader is very enjoyable to listen to.

you should not.....

the book is very dull. ..it talks about things codependency people do....by say , " don't do this....don't do that...but nothing about what u can do instead or should do instead.." if u are very new to codependency. ..then it would be an ok book to start out with...but if u have read several books on codependency. ..u will find it boring and a waste of ur time .
