Very good insights into an emotional recovery
- By chris on 13-02-15
Summary
Author Melody Beattie's Codependent No More spent an astonishing three years on the New York Times best seller list and made codependent a household word. In this thoughtful sequel, she offers further helpful advice for making permanent, positive lifestyle changes.
Alcoholism, drug abuse, and similar destructive practices can render families dysfunctional. When the children of these families become adults, they sometimes develop self-defeating survival tactics, such as low self-esteem or an obsession with controlling another person's behavior. To help those stuck in codependent cycles identify and eliminate such troubling issues from their relationships, Beattie shares wisdom gained from years of experience. Beyond Codependency is a sensitive and supportive audiobook that encourages listeners to adopt a practical approach when confronting their own unhealthy and unproductive behaviors. As she did with the original, narrator Christina Moore lends her reassuring voice to this important book.

Thank you Melody, again.
Melodies first book, "Codependant No More", was suggested to me early in my recovery from drug, alcohol and caretaking addictions. I read it about ten years later, thinking it was not what I had needed at the time when it was suggested. Oh the endless misery it could have saved me if I'd have read it sooner. Don't wait to read both of these books. Please read them both now as though your life depended on it, because it very well may. My life has always been rather charmed. I almost felt bad for having problems getting my life together because from outside appearances, I had no reason to not thrive. But my life, my very existence was never about me, outside of the self loathing I was partaking in. Melody opened my eyes to the real root of all my problems in her books. I gained control of my life, for the first time in my life, due to the knowledge within her writing that I gained and applied. I'm now in control of how I feel, what I do, why I do it, how I do it, and no one can cause me to be anxious or angry or any other feeling. I feel like some kind of wise ninja, lol... Thank you so much Melody.

Life changing book
this book was one of the most transformational books in my life. It taught me so much about my past relationships and also some key qualities that codependency causes in many people's lives such as shame. I was not shamed as a child yet I have been in relationships with women who have been and it is something that I could never comprehend but after this book I really have a lot of empathy for what is going on in their life. I'm so grateful for this book.

What a Beautiful Book
I read this book after reading codependent no more. I’ve read other codependency healing books and Melody Beattie’s explanations, insight and advice has a unique wording that speaks to the heart. I have ordered another book of hers with daily meditations and it has helped me. I look forward to reading it every morning. I highly recommend this audiobook to anyone in the path of continuous healing. I love that she took a chapter to speak about children and the importance of them needing to heal as well. I also loved the stories she chose to use in this book because they were perfectly relatable in many ways. A lot of problems I’ve always wondered about or thought no one would really understand was perfectly explained with solutions in such a clear way. She stays on topic and organizes such a messy and depressing topic in ways that felt as if various light bulbs just turned on in my head. I was asleep and confused for years but Melody’s books especially this one turned my life around and I am forever thankful.
