Summary

The top 10 best seller.

Shortlisted for the Richard and Judy search for a best seller competition.

Did I know it would come to this? There is no shot at redemption. I am going to die. The gun is in my eye-line as the second bullet is fired. That's the one that kills me.

Late at night, two powerful men meet in a secret location to discuss a long nurtured plan about to come to fruition. One is desperate to know there is nothing standing in their way - the other assures him everything is taken care of. Hours later, a high-ranking government official called Ryan Finnegan is brutally slain in the most secure building in Ireland - Leinster House, the seat of parliament. Inspector Tom Reynolds and his team are called in to uncover the truth behind the murder.

At first, all the evidence hints at a politically motivated crime, until a surprise discovery takes the investigation in a dramatically different direction. Suddenly the motive for murder has got a lot more personal...but who benefits the most from Ryan's death?

disappointing

After reading the first book in the series, I was amazed at the differences between these two books. The storyline was boring and the characters so one dimensuonal that I coulldnt care less who did what.
That said, I still want to give her books another try because the first one was so fantastic

Such a well constructed and narrated story iceiring writers - write abo

John Spain has fully implemented the often proffered advice - write about what you know here. Jo,s experience S a political advisor in the Irish legislature at Leinster House in Dublin has allowed her to spin a gripping yarn totally convincing in context, physical and psychological. A very enjoyable and informative story for me as knowing as an Englishman very little about the Irish politicl world. At the same time the sensitive h handling of subject materials by this fully female writer is a joy and an education the story is so original but conforms. And ticks all the boxes of the genre thanks Jo

Riveting

Excellent murder mystery and a great listen -Well done to Aoife. The Irish influence includes DI Reynolds personal life interwoven with his daily workload and is so very believable. Have already ordered book 3

excellent

I read the first in the series and this was just as good. narrator does the multiple voices very well, plot is interesting but without being bloated or complicated. good relationship developments throughout - you feel like you begin to get to know the characters. I bought this one as soon as I had completed the first and have now bought the 3rd.

Bit disappointed

I usually love Jo Spain but I found this story was lacking the usual suspense.

Some of the accents were a bit off as well which was distracting.

Chapter numbers don’t match audio...

Jo Spain never disappoints, always keeps you hooked and wondering.
Just one thing to point out - this is the second of her audiobooks on Audible where the numbers of the chapters don’t match the audio - Chapter 1 is read as the prolog, and Chapter 2 read as Chapter 1 and so on... a small irritation but an irritation all the same!

Political process disguised as a story

Spain's main character switches off when politics is mentioned, yet the writer insists on shoving every aspect of politics down her reader's throats. Not what I expect from Jo Spain.

Big fan of Jo Spain but probably my least favourite

Fairly good story line overall but at times goes off at tangents and a tad confusing at times.
Aoife give a great performance again so that helped.
I love Jo Spain’s books but so far this was my least favourite, still good though.

Good story, bad accent

I liked the first in this series, and this second book was even better. On thing bothered me thou, the accent the narrator tried to put on. The supposed Danish accent sounded Russian. Either get it right or let it be and just read.
