Summary

From USA Today best-selling author Marni Mann comes Before You, a contemporary romance and a devastating examination of the people we meet, the life we create, and the things we lose.

It was supposed to be a typical work trip. New York to San Francisco, window seat, exit row. Maybe a mimosa. Then, seat 14B sat down. When our eyes met, the flight became anything but routine.

I could pinpoint the moments in my life where everything changed forever. Meeting Jared on that flight was first. Falling in love with him was second. Discovering the secrets he kept was third. Putting my broken self back together and forgetting what I learned would be difficult. Forgiving Jared would be impossible.

He said, before me, nothing mattered. But after him, nothing would ever be the same.

Fantastic!

I loved this book so much that I couldn’t put it down. The twists are brilliant and unpredictable. Jared and Billie are great characters who have an instant chemistry between them. A chemistry that Jared tries to fight. It’s a beautiful and emotional read that you won’t want to miss. I listened to the audio book, and the wonderful narrators brought the story to life. I highly recommend.

Amazing.

Oh Marni, you have shaken my emotions, I cannot even put into words how amazing this story is, which is a problem as I am trying to write a review here. I am currently sitting here eating a packet of cheesy puff comfort food and I'm supposed to be on a diet! As soon as it was available I purchased an audiobook copy. The voice acting is exemplary and a wonderful compliment to Marni's breathtaking writing. Virginia, Ava and Jason were wonderfully expressive, believable and their voices, while on their own were remarkable, worked together seamlessly. Marni has this beautiful talent of writing a stunning romantic story, and you know something is amiss but she swipes your feet out from underneath you at the end because there is no predicting where the story will take you. To write a spoiler free review here is incredibly difficult so I will give you this.. This is a story of fear, love and heartbreak. The characters are richly developed and beautifully expressed and they take you on an emotional journey. 5 stars is simply not enough.

what the hell did I just read??

It was a great book, kind of. The premise was a bit much with the bouncing back and forth. I kept trying to figure out why the older story mattered. And then boom, its explained and I cant help but say um WTF this is not normal, this is just creepy. A guy kills a mother and child, changes him name then years later tracks down the remaining child and inserts himself into her life. Falls in love with her, protects her etc and we're supposed to just swoon over this like it's completely normal? No, this is creepy and weird. So so wrong on so many levels!

Seriously fantastic story and narration

Since listening to Before Ashes Fall, I've been a bit scared to read/listen to Marni Mann again. Not because I didn't like her story but because I felt way too many feelings. My heart ached and I cried. I cried a lot. I know some people enjoy a good heart-wrenching crier but I wasn't prepared for the way it touched me. The sobs that wracked my body! So to say I was going to proceed with Marni Mann books with a bit of caution is an understatement. Before You is like living through high impact, high intense sport… my heart was constantly speeding up just to put on the hard breaks! I don’t know what Marni Mann does to make me feel her stories so strongly but I do, I feel them deep down in my heart, in my gut! This one even more so. There was a certain character that I related to so closely that I remember those monthly struggles and the aches that go along with it. I could rant and rave here. I won’t. Everyone should experience Before You as Marni Mann set out for it to be delivered. Mann’s writing is getting better with every passing story. I didn’t know who to ache for in this story. I do as the book went on and on that I started to feel an apprehension building in myself. I knew that something was about to happen. I knew I wasn’t going to life what happened. I didn’t. But again, this book, sigh… it was captivating. I was totally hypnotized by the story. Add in these amazing narrators and there was no possibly way this isn’t worth the entire 5 stars I’m giving Before You. If you have the opportunity to listen to this audiobook, I highly recommend it. It’s one of the best stories and narration.

This story never got going for me.

I really wanted to have high hopes for this story. But this one to me was a waste of a credit and I will return. I really wanted to like this one. It just never really got going.

A unique love story ❤️

“Before You” was a unique and well written love story. Marni’s way of writing a detailed emotionally book is addicting. I was so in love with how she gave us Billy and Jared. Their story is one to not be forgotten. Bravo Marni on another great read and listen in Before You.

AN EMOTIONALLY DRIVEN ROLLERCOASTER ROMANCE

Oh Marni.. Marni.. Marni, you’ve written not one, but two beautiful soul-mate love stories here, uniquely and intriguingly weaved them together.. and then totally side-swiped me. Because, with one cruel twist held firmly in Fate’s fickle hand, you finally revealed the missing poignant piece of the story.. and then it all made sense. Summarizing these two very different love stories would be a sacrilege to their stories.. and giving clues would be indescribably detrimental to this haunting tale too. However, what I can say is that the narration by Virginia, Ava and Jason was fantastic and their words, each weighty one primed and loaded by this talented author, drew me in, made me taste the highs and the heartbreaking lows and made this a non-stop compelling journey. Worth a credit? This is a very different emotional romance.. it won’t be everyone’s mug of heart-scrolled java.. and the bitter-sweet hopeful aftertaste will stay with you for hours afterwards.. however, I personally loved this slow-moving thought-provoking, and yes creditworthy, tale.

So confusing but oh so good

I was so confused through half of this book but it was really fun trying to figure out what the story was about. By time I got to the end I was completely blown away. This is such a heartbreaking and beautiful story. It's unusual which makes even better. It's not your typical romance novel.

Don’t let When Ashes Fall stop you

Like others have mentioned, When Ashes Fall was such a devastatingly emotional book (fat tears and puffy eyes) that I almost was afraid to listen to another one of Marni Mann’s books. But, I loved it so much I wanted to try another and just hoped it wouldn’t be as gutting. This one did not disappoint- it is just as good, but far less heartbreaking. It leaves you guessing from the start and ties in emotions and makes you feel and is just overall so good. Wonderful writing and the narrators were perfect. Definitely worth a credit!

Amazing

The story is heartbreaking but so human. Love defy everything and everyone. To the author this is my first time listening to your book, I will look for more to read and listen. To future listeners the narrator is great.

Couldn't Stop Listening

I listened Before You on audible. The audio was released a little earlier than the ebook. The three narrators voices worked really well together. I think it enhanced my experience with the story. Marni Mann's newest release Before You will knock you on your butt. I love nothing more than a book that can keep me intrigued from beginning to end. I didn't read the blurb I just jumped straight in. I can't tell you the number of times that I wanted answers throughout the book and thought maybe I should've read it. I fought the urge so many times, thinking I should stop to read it. Ultimately I didn't. I decided it was better to be in suspense. I have many thoughts and notes on this story that I can't really share because spoilers suck. I will say that once again, I was impressed with Marni's writing. The story was unique and told very well. I'm especially impressed with one detail that changed the story for me. I was still thinking about it the next day and fumbled through the ebook to reread a part or two. It just made me more impressed with how she wrote it. You'll want to listen to this, trust me.

I couldn’t stop listening

Marni wrote a beautiful story about how we don’t get to chose who we love. When the heart finds its soulmate we can fight it all we want because our mind knows the reasons it will never work. The question is, will heart or mind win? I usually take a week to finish an audio. This one took two days! I could not put it down. Marni have you guessing for hours. How is all this connected? She writes with such a talent that it deserves the best narrators. And those she got👌
