Summary

Levin Crowdley is engaged to the man of her dreams, or so she thought. That is, until a stranger appears on her doorstep to suggest Alec, her adoring fiancé, is anything but.

No one has ever left Alec. More precisely; no one has ever left Alec and lived to tell about it.

Levin's life is now about survival, a game of cat and mouse as Alec pursues her.

And the second he catches her, he’s never letting go. ’Til death do them part.

Proceed with caution

Because of personal trauma, I had a hard time listening to this book.

*Proceed with caution if you're a survivor of abuse.*

The text on the cover of the book says, "He likes the HUNT. She likes the CHASE. Run, Rabbit, RUN." Nothing in this book led me to believe that Levin, the female protagonist, enjoys the chase. Levin feels stifled in her relationship with Alec. And rightly so. He's controlling, abusive, and a complete creep. (We know this because he tells us. The author switches between Levin and Alec's point of view.) She cuts ties and runs away to start a new life, and he follows.

The story plays out like a Lifetime movie - no subtly or nuance.

Great Psychological Thriller

This was my first Marin Montgomery's book and won't be the last! Somehow, this story reminds me Sleeping with the enemy, a story I had absolutely loved! This story is a Psychological Thriller. The story is fast-paced, intriguing and captivating. The length is perfect! Enough to well developed the plot, without stretching the story unnecessarily. The storyline is suspenseful. Levin's story is heartbreaking and scaring. Alec has a narcissistic personality disorder. He is a control freak, psychopath, and a killer. The survival game between them is breathtaking! The narration is so well done! I like Wally Schrass's voice. He is a great storyteller. He has a great voice, well paced, with a great range of voices. I really enjoyed my listening. I'm looking forward for more books written by this author and more audiobooks read by this narrator. I received this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

Enjoyed

I really enjoyed this story. It follows an age old tale of a woman getting out of an abusive relationship but there are lots of twists and turns. Overall I thought it was very solid and deserves a listen to. The narration was very good.

Left me wanting more

Relationships needed more depth. Plot was rushed. The swiftness of the story didn't bode well overall. I enjoyed the snarkiness of the lead male, as well as the narrator. But overall, glad it was over.

Narrator

I’m probably just being extra but I prefer multiple narrators and not just one monotone one.

Decent

It's an interesting story, some questionable sections but still worth the credit. No big twist or surprises.

Nail Biting Suspense

This book was an emotional roller coaster ride with your my heart in my chest for Levin. It almost like a wolf hunting his prey and stalking. Any victim of stalking and this kind of terror will know exactly what I mean, as you are consistently looking of your shoulder and calculating their next move. Fantastic read and this will not be the last book that I read from Marin Montgomery.

The narration was performed by Wally Schrass and for Alec was perfect. I personally would have chosen a female voice for Levin, but this in only my 2 cents.

Good and Suspenseful

I really enjoyed this book As someone else said, it does remind me of the movie “sleeping with the enemy” but that was also a good movie! Highly recommend.

Great Read

Because You're Mine was another great read by Marin Montgomery. Levin decides to leave her fiancé when he murders her best friend. Unfortunately for her Alec will not allow her to get away that easily. He stops at nothing to have Levin in his grasp again. I loved this book by Marin Montgomery and can't wait to read more by the author.
