Summary

Have you ever wondered what the Old Testament - especially the Old Testament law - has to do with your Christian life?

You are not alone. Some Christian leaders believe we should cast off the Old Testament now that we have the New. Carmen Joy Imes disagrees.

In this warm, accessible volume, Imes takes listeners back to Sinai, the ancient mountain where Israel met their God, and explains the meaning of events there. She argues that we've misunderstood the command about "taking the Lord's name in vain." Instead, Imes says that this command is about "bearing God's name," a theme that continues throughout the rest of Scripture. Listeners will revisit the story of Israel as they trudge through the wilderness from a grueling past to a promising future. The story of Israel turns out to be our story too, and you'll discover why Sinai still matters as you follow Jesus today.

Great Audiobook!

This audiobook is very interesting I had heard about this book by listening to the Naked Bible Podcast were the author of the book was interviewed. It an excellent ready for anyone who enjoys digging a little deeper into the Word of God. Best of all its written in a way that makes it easy to understand. As to the recording they did a great job and the narrator who read this book did an excellent job! To sum it all up I would definitely recommend this audiobook!

Excellent Read and Study!

Excellent read for many reasons. One of which is connecting how the NT writers knit the OT covenant into their narrative. Thanks so much to Dr. Imes for creating this work! I have the book as well and found it very helpful to listen first then read and highlight after.
I look forward to listening again!

Grace and the Name

The author reminds us to see again the connection between the Old and New Testaments. We are to bear God's name and that is much bigger than not swearing.

Grace is shown so many ways in God's dealings with people in the old covenant, not just the new. This is a good book to get you thinking. I know it did me.

I loved this!

The book was fascinating; it struck exactly the right balance in terms of personal anecdote and academic exposition (which is no mean feat considering how picky I am). I came away feeling thoroughly enriched from it, and the narrator was sublime. She has just a lovely, warm, articulate manner of communicating. I strongly recommend the author make certain she's used for any future releases!

Everyone needs these insights on the OT.

These insights bt Prof. Carmen Imes are crucial to understanding Jesus' Identity and mission, as well as our role in it. May we 'bear the Lord's Name' in a way the OT anticipated the New (Renewed) Covenant would.

DISAPPOINTING

DRUG ON. Nothing new. Should of finished in half the time. Some inaccuracies, such as labeling the correct name of God as gibberish.

Wonderful book on common miss-understood scripture.

Wonderfully, clearly explained biblical concepts I thought I understood. Mrs. Imes caused me to question my understanding of biblical scripture in a humble way, but then didn’t leave me hung out to dry. An excellent theological work that is easy on the ears, somewhat difficult for the soul, but none the less great.
