Summary

THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

The second novel in the Guardians Trilogy from the bestselling author of Stars of Fortune.

Mermaid Annika is from the sea, and it is there she must return after her quest to find the stars. New to this world, her purity and beauty are nothing less than breathtaking, along with her graceful athleticism, as her five new friends discovered when they retrieved the fire star.

Now, through space and time, traveler Sawyer King has brought the guardians to the island of Capri, where the water star is hidden. And as he watches Annika in her element, he finds himself drawn to her joyful spirit. But Sawyer knows that if he allows her into his heart, no compass could ever guide him back to solid ground....

And in the darkness, their enemy broods. She lost one star to the guardians, but there is still time for blood to be spilled - the mermaid's in the water and the traveler's on the land. For she has forged a dangerous new weapon. Something deadly and unpredictable. Something human.

another amazing installment from this series.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

yes i would, i think it is a fantastic story, i am not a masive fan of fantacy however this has really hooked me in and i can't wait to read the final book of the series.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favourit character was anika, her purity and happyness is so sweet and the way she loves no matter what sadness is happening is amazing.

What about Saskia Maarleveld’s performance did you like?

Love the way she has managed to keep the characters identaty going threwout the second book as well and that she has developed her reading of the different characters more.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes.

Ho Hum

I listened to the complete story and if I had not purchased this on a two for one sale, I would have returned it. In a nutshell, Nora Roberts does a good job of keeping the sex on a low porn level but I found the sex talk from the little mermaid - and I can't even remember her name, was so juvenile that I could barely take her banter. Granted, she had very little experience with the human world but having to listen to the same prepubescent blah-blah-blah was really annoying. For me it took away from the story to the point this book became background noise. I will not be buying the third book in the sequel.

This book gave me a bad feeling...

It's like listening to a five-year-old talk about sex.

Then I had to skip through the parts where the one with the five-year-old mentality had sex.

I'm sorry, it is just my opinion, but the mermaid just comes across that way. I'm sure I am not the only one who thinks this.

If that wasn't part of the book I would've given it four stars. I'm really hoping that the third book can save this trilogy.

The story line is kind of fun in a Buffy meets The Librarians sort of way, but yeah, I was put off.

Spot-on!

Another winner for Nora Roberts! Even though the trilogy series get predictable after a while I enjoy that about them. Just a couple of things that drove me crazy throughout the book. Referring to the gun magazines as clips! That's not what they are! The magazine holds the bullets. And every time the characters said damn skippy! Not to sound too Hermione here but it's Damne SKIPPY, not DAMN skippy.

I'm very much looking forward to the third in the trilogy! Write like the wind and get that going!

Where has my Nora.. gone?

What disappointed you about Bay of Sighs?

To say I feel like Nora has 'phoned this one in' is an understatement. Wow.. it is almost un-readable (or not listenable in my case). The character of the mermaid makes me cringe with her fake naivety and I don't get me started on the fact that some the editors must have sat in a boardroom and said to each other that we need to start appealing to younger reader. So how do they do that?? They took what I can only imagine was Nora's regularly superb writing and add insipid pop culture tie-ins that are suppose to make it hip or relevant to a younger audience with movie titles, one-liners and drinking vernacular. It doesn't.. it just is alienating the core audience. Nothing fits.. and they stick out like sore thumbs or like product placement in the middle of the story. It's just weird and very - not Nora.

I am going to try very hard that I read this trilogy and remember all the brilliance that has come before it.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I will force myself to get through the 3rd book of the series but I will likely forget about it because I don't care about any of the characters or want to find out what happens.

What about Saskia Maarleveld’s performance did you like?

Good job with the material given

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

You'll get through it quickly.. skip pages if you have to.

Any additional comments?

If you just love Nora Roberts you will read this and may enjoy the basic story - but it's one she's told many times. If you have other Trilogy options of hers.. with higher 'star' ratings.. start there.

I usually wait until all three books are available for a trilogy but after the first book I couldn't wait. And I was right. Amazing story, characters and phenomenal narrator. Almost wish there were more to the storyline than just three!

Outstanding

Nora Roberts is out doing herself on this trilogy! I have waited and waited for second book Bay of Sighs to come out and I am thrilled! Far more intrigue and suspense than most of her trilogy's. Yes, you do know who is going to hook up next and that is normal but the story is so far one of her best!
Saskia Maarleveld is really challenged in second book with all of the new characters introduced! She does a great job! She is one of my favorite narrators for Nora Roberts books!

Mermaid, Time travel, Adventure

I recently discovered this book. I love the narrator, Saskia Maarleveld. I listen to a lot of audibles. I love Julia Whelan, Mary Jane Wells, and Keleo Griffith. Saskia Maarleveld is now on the favorites list. I was looking for something different as I waited for the next In Death Book. So glad I found this trilogy. The books need to be read in order. I actually like that. It is interesting that although the characters are around the same age, they appear to be different ages in terms of how they are treated by the group. That was an interesting dynamic to me. I enjoyed the plot, characters, action, and surprises of each character. I have re-listened to the books multiple times. It was worth the credit IMO.
