About this listen

Our aim with this narrative is to share our journey through the labyrinth of cancer treatment—the decisions we faced, the paths we chose, and, most importantly, the lessons we learned. We hope to offer guidance, support, and perhaps a sense of solidarity to others who find themselves on a similar journey. This is not your typical medical guide; it is a well-researched companion for every aspect of your cancer journey and a deeply personal account of battling cancer from the perspective of a spouse. It highlights the critical role of the caregiver in decision-making, emotional support, and managing the day-to-day challenges that accompany this disease.

We invite you, the listener, to approach this book with an open heart and mind, ready to learn from our research, experiences and to find comfort and guidance in our shared story. While the journey through cancer is undeniably challenging, there are ways to navigate it with strength, love, and an informed perspective.

We extend our deepest gratitude to you for joining us on this journey. Your own battles and resilience in the face of cancer are a testament to the human spirit's capacity to endure and overcome.

"Battling Cancer from the Sidelines" is a profound and heartfelt account that delves into the oft-overlooked experiences of a spouse watching their loved one fight cancer. This book is not just a recounting of medical treatments but a deeply personal exploration of the emotional and logistical challenges that come with navigating a partner’s illness. What I especially appreciate is how the book addresses the feelings of helplessness and the strain on the spousal relationship, offering strategies for maintaining emotional closeness and mutual support. I recommend this book to anyone dealing with ANY kind of illness as a person who lost her husband from a different ailment, it applies and can help!

This is perhaps one of the most important audiobooks that has ever been written and recorded, hands down. Cancer sucks. There is no other way to say it. I know firsthand the havoc it can wreak on a family. Thankfully, not as a spouse, but as teenager. My mother passed away from lung cancer when I was a teenager at the young age of 46. She was diagnosed two years earlier, and I only ever felt sadness and pain for her, but I was too young to stop and consider the toll it was taking on my father as well. I wish he had a resource like this to help guide him and her along the journey, a journey that unfortunately only lasted two years before she lost the battle. I am 48 years old, and I can't even imagine me, or my wife, going through this with our children. I will be recommending this audiobook to anyone that is unfortunate enough to need to listen to it.

I recently did end of life care for a parent with cancer. I wish I had been able to listen to this book. Luckily as I listen, I have another family member going through this period.

I also have a very good friend who has recovered from cancer and this is what this book is all about - the beginning, the care, and surviving.

More importantly it provides the answer to the many questions you have - the biggest one is - what can I do to make things easier or even better. What food? And this book provides these answers.

This is an incredible resource - clearly from someone who has been through this, because it truly does answer almost everything you want to know about and it doesn’t forget the feelings and how we cope - or struggle to cope at the start, including the wider family. And, like many of the tools and tips, it explains what’s going on it our body too, and so the solutions are physiological as well as for the mind.

It covers all the aspects we face - the tiredness, the treatment and side effects and what we can do to make it all so much easier. And it really is the simple things - if you know what these are.

A really great book and a must for anyone going through this.
