About this listen

Book 1 of the Complete Series.

***A LitRPG Progression Fantasy Epic with a Fire Mage and Enchanter Hero.***

Across the world of Aster Fall, there are unique classes, but not all of them can be trained. They require quests and accomplishments that simply don't exist in the world.

Some say the World Law itself is broken and that the world is falling apart.

In comes Sam Hastern.

His family has been cursed by one of these classes for the last fifty years. No one has ever managed to level it, condemning them to the lowest paying jobs and life in a barren village.

The class is called Battlefield Reclaimer.

The only information he has is the class description that it is an ancient enchanter and smith, along with a quest to seek out a battlefield and learn how to reclaim the artifacts of the past.

There's one more little problem.

Sam’s about to have it even worse, when a dungeon exploration leaves him looking distinctly non-human.

All he wants is to protect his family and study spells, but to do that, he'll have to learn ancient magic and walk in the footsteps of the old rulers of the galaxy.

A Titan is rising and the Primal Void is coming with him.

Really good and enjoyable story. Takes off in an unexpected and unusual direction which is to be applauded. Great characters with good development and a story that’s not just about casting, but does also have good battles.

Fantastic. Highly recommended.

Excellent start to the series. I really enjoyed the progression of the main character, Sam, though the experience points needed at fairly low levels seemed extreme. I had two niggles that, for me, make this a four star book. The first is the constant reminder that Sam wants to get get home and protect his family. And we are told that Sam's dad wants to get home and protect his family. And we are told that Sam wants to protect his dad. And we are told that Sam's dad wants to protect Sam. Sam doesn't listen to some choices he could make because he so focused on, you guessed it, saving his dad. It gets a bit much for me after a while.

The other niggle is that the author used the phrase "more unique". Unique is already a superlative and you can't get "more unique". A minor slip but one that really jarred.

The story was good and the character progression was reasonable (considering that the maximum level is 300). The battles were enjoyable. The character interactions were somewhat wooden at times but still fine overall.

I will definitely continue this series.

This has been on my radar for a while as the blurb sounded interested and it was originally narrated by Travis Baldree. I then found out this had be re-narrated as Travis is so in demand he couldn't record the follow-up books in an reasonable timeframe. So perfect jumping on point with new narrators and hopefully future books being released regular.

The majority of the story is set in underground caves after an unexpected accident. The MC and father are really likeable characters and written really well. There is the usual monster, crafting, fighting and leveling. Where this shines is the classes and magic. It is very well thought out and interesting. By the end of the book the MC and father have jumped massively in power but haven't really interacted with any of the other heroes who are many magnitudes more powerful. I will be getting the second book as I want to see the expanded world and where this author is going to take the series.
Highly recommended.

interesting ideas with having the MC appear similar to a demon and give him a unique class...
made for interesting takes on a lot of situations.
MC is somewhat OP and handles most situations without needing any help or guidance...

pretty enjoyable

With the launch of Book 6, as I just start book 4 there are so many good things to say.

Firstly, the quality of the writing and narration is a real treat, this is a well thought out fantasy realm, yes I mean realm. Whilst a Litrpg book, David North has balanced perfectly the character development and system metrics so it supports and strengthens the story without it becoming a stat fest. Breaking the mould of generic classes David offers a broad spectrum of unique options that say a lot about his passion for originality but also his ability to make classes and skills work with logic, reason and that wow factor fans of the genre feed on.

The real treat, yes I mean treat, is that the Guardian of Aster Fall series takes time to detail personalities with all the flaws and conflicts we each have, the social complexities of communities, economies, politics and beliefs whilst weaving in a wonderful history that leaves you wanting more.

Want more, read the next book, or listen with John and Stephenie's fabulous narration. For me I listen during long drives and I cannot thank this talented crew enough for the incredible escapism Battlefield Reclaimer provides.

As a massive fan of Audible each credit provides 15 to 20 hrs per book, that's immense value. Yes I received book 1 as a gift but have happily bought the remaining books in the series using audible credits... because it is just so good.

Thank you David, keep up the great work.

Real fantasy escapism... start your adventure.
