About this listen

Scorio will rise from the ashes to conquer the 10 layers of hell.

Reborn without memories, Scorio learns that he is a Great Soul, a legendary defender of the ancient city of Bastion. That within the hallowed halls of the Academy and under the stern eyes of the underworld’s greatest instructors he will enjoy enormous privilege, rediscover unique and wondrous powers, and one day return to the millennium-old battle against their infernal foes.

Until he is betrayed. Singled out and sentenced to die for crimes he can't remember, Scorio is hurled to his doom - and forgotten.

But from even the dimmest spark an inferno may one day rage.

Clawing his way back from oblivion, Scorio vows to return to the Academy at any cost. To emerge from the ruins and within those golden walls defeat his elite classmates in a quest to ascend the ranks and change the course of history. For only then will he learn about his forgotten past and why his enemies have rightly feared him since the day he was reborn.

First I want to say this is a fantastic title and I’m definitely gonna listen to the whole series.

The characters go from creating great leaps in logic and thoroughly fort out ideas to being the most dumb characters I have ever listened to it becomes infuriating at times.

Agin the story is great fantastic even just has some really dumb characters who are also incredibly intelligent.

Fantastic title

I love to find a gem of a series like this. The story and character development wad well paced, not rushed and throughly enjoyable.

I'm straight on to the next one.

Super story brought to life by excellent narration

This should be a five, but occasionally I struggled with the character(s) and I felt things were not quite always character led instead plot led.
However it’s a minor. The ending is very good and brings together a lot and sets up what should be a fantastic saga.

Narration is top draw, brilliant.

In short, it's a good book. If you like epic fantasy, your gonna like this one.
However, it is a slow burn kind of story and it takes a while for it to get rolling. My big epic problem with the book is its lackluster main character.
He is well written and I am interested in the character, it's just that for the entire book he is absolutely useless and just wins all the struggles through luck and plot-armour. The last 2 hours of the book he finally wins through his own skill and effort but before that he just struggle to struggle.

I hope this will improve in the next book and we are over the out drawn struggle and underdog act of the series and actually get to se him do something cool and explore the world in the next one.

Interesting but slow.
