As a new student of counselling I found this book to be excellent, easy to follow and well narrated. I would highly recommend for trainees, experienced counsellors or those simply looking to learn counselling skills for an unrelated job (manager, nurse, etc). Having listened to the book and watched some of the authors training videos afterwards I can see Ken Kelly clearly knows and understands his subject, It is certainly a book I will listen to over and over again and plan to buy a hard copy to follow along with. I would also recommend visiting the website Counselling Tutor along with the book as you will have the opportunity to watch the skills in practice which really helps to put everything into perspective.

I like this because it’s very direct to the point and simple. I think this is a good starting point for anyone with an interest in counselling because it will give you a few things that you can immediately start working on. This book is probably even useful If you’re just looking to improve your communication skills.

I am a studying L3 Counselling and this book helps demonstrate some of the basic skills being used, the context they are used in and how they get results when used in the right place at the right time. The book clarifies and reinforces the course material and very easy to follow.
