Story
Three of the most popular and sought after apocryphal books are now presented in a single volume. The Book of Enoch is quoted by Jude, cited by Peter, and read by the apostles, Enoch (1 Enoch) informs our ideas of angels and demons. The book describes the fall of a group of angels called the Watchers, who took the daughters of men as wives and fathered the Nephilim (Genesis 6: 1-2). Enoch goes on to record amazing visions of heaven and the workings thereof. Enoch is an ancient Jewish religious work, traditionally ascribed to Enoch, the great-grandfather of Noah.

The fate of the Lost Ark of the Covenant is one of the great historical mysteries of all time. The Bible contains hundreds of references to the Ark's power, but the Ark itself mysteriously disappears from recorded history sometime after the building of the Temple of Solomon. After 10 years of searching through the dusty archives of Europe and the Middle East, Graham Hancock has succeeded where scores of others have failed. This intrepid journalist has tracked down the true story behind the myths and legends - revealing where the Ark is today, how it got there, and why it remains hidden.

Story
The Ancient Dead Sea Scrolls speak about a mysterious 364-day solar calendar used by the ancients from the time of Creation to about 170 BC. In the second century BC, it was replaced with a lunar calendar by corrupt Jewish priests. Today we know this corrupt lunar calendar as the modern Jewish calendar. In this book we will learn about God’s original solar calendar and discover what prophecies it reveals. Most Christians know that the Jewish festivals teach prophecy. Festivals like Passover, teach about the First Coming of the Messiah.

Apocrypha is a Greek word that means "something hidden". The term is often used for writings of the church that are not generally accepted as authentic or inspired. It is unclear what the motivation was for writing many of these works. But often they fill in gaps of information where the Bible is silent.

Capturing its brilliantly compact poetry and finely wrought, purposeful prose, Alter renews the Old Testament as a source of literary power and spiritual inspiration. From the family frictions of Genesis and King David's flawed humanity to the serene wisdom of Psalms and Job's incendiary questioning of God's ways, these magnificent works of world literature resonate with a startling immediacy.

Evil walked the earth when angels fell. Evil stalks us now in disembodied spirits; immortal wraiths once clothed in flesh when angel and women bred; spirits released from their fleshly prisons when their bodies were destroyed for drinking the blood of men. Evil also lives inside of the common man; set free when pride kills reason and eats integrity whole. There is evil that entraps us and evil that tugs from within. But neither have control until we choose to relent.

Who decides what is Canon...do we get a say?
The author does a good job in being objective. We all need to take a step back and challenge what we have been forced to believe. Regardless of whether Christianity is correct or not....certain people in history have made the decision for all of us what we should read and what we CANNOT read. The same people are associated with a church who carried out the most atrocious and barbaric acts against humanity in the last few centuries. We all need to view all of the information available to make our own choices in our faith and beliefs. Don't hide behind the argument that only 'inspired' writings are included in the bible....anything that does not align with the orthodox Christian 'standard model' is excluded.....make up you own mind!

Weak Narration
The narrator attempts to read at least half an octave below his natural speaking voice. It makes me think of a community theater actor trying to sound like his character has a sore throat, but knowing that he has to project to be heard.
The mispronunciations begin with "canonical" fairly early in the preface. This is followed by multiple examples of "treatise"... tree-at-us? Read that as "The giant threw a tree at us". There are others, but these examples should make my point.
I'm not sure if the print version is wrong or if the narrator adds the "S" on his own, but the book of "Revelations" is mentioned.
This is all within the preface of a 44+ hour book.
I hope to finish this, as the subject fascinates me, but so far it is extremely disappointing as far as the narration goes.

Misleading Headline
This recording starts with actual books that had been written during the time of the Old Testament that fill out details in the lives of the Patriarchs. Those are interesting. It is likely they were not included due to sheer volume. Later the author gets into all kinds of theological questions and controversies that really couldn't be considered books that would ever have been considered for the Bible when the final Canon was decided. He is getting into Gnosticism and New Age kinds of questions and confusions due to translations from the original languages into English. I am not interested in those topics at all. If you are a believing Christian and just wanted more understanding of the salvation history, inspiration and instruction recounted in the Bible this is not what you are looking for. The narrator has a good voice although he does not use much expression.
