Summary
While confronting the final stages of a painful terminal illness, 89-year-old Dr. Daniel Nielsen considers his life to be a complete disaster for failing to save many of his patients, including his best friend and his wife. Feeling despondent and lonely, he attempts without success to take his own life. Too afraid to try again, he now considers himself a coward as well as an abject failure.
