Summary

A gorgeous, heart-warming, and kinky Christmas M/M tale from award-winning author Isobel Starling

Back in Scotland after five years working in Australia, Kier Campbell finds himself stranded on a road in the Scottish Highlands on Christmas Eve. He needs to get to the next village urgently or freeze to death in his broken-down hire car. Kier hikes down the icy road and as he walks memories of the life he'd run from - and the love he'd abandoned in Scotland - return to haunt him.

With a blizzard fast approaching, a passing motorist finds Kier and offers him a lift. He is surprised to recognize the driver. As the weather worsens he realizes there is no way he will reach his parents' farm, and so is stranded with his saviour for the holidays.

Kier's one Christmas wish is to make up for the mistakes he made all those years ago, but, curiously, he finds he has an unexpected rival for his lover's affections....

FYI: This "second chance at love" story contains descriptions of gay sex and puppy play (woof!).

Oh, for the love of a Scotsman!

Back Where He Belongs is such a charming story of second chance love at Christmas, with a VERY kinky twist.
I adored every second of it. The narration by Gary Furlong was sublime and I got so lost in the story he was telling that the time flew. My only negative would be it was too short. I would love more from this couple from Isobel Starling and more from Gary doing their narration.

Highly recommended for M/M listeners

Second Chance with a hint of kink

A well written second chance romance with a hint of kink. Although brief, the author manages to give us a good sense of who Keir and Douglas are, where they've been, and where they're going. Even though I found the particular kink aspect a bit difficult to deal with in the sex scenes, it was such a small part it didn't really do much to spoil my enjoyment. The narrator does a fantastic job with both the accents and the characters.

Sweet little tail 🐶

A very cute little book. Finished a bit abruptly but in a great place. I think an epilogue would have been good.
Gary Furlong's Scottish accent was so sexy!

Great little novella

Isobel Starling really does write great stories.
This little story is just less than 2hrs long and is about 2 childhood friends who when older become lovers, One left to travel, one stayed behind, this is their Love Reunited story.
Gary Furlong is fast becoming one of my favourite narrators, superb..

Just the tale to warm your cockles....

A super tale for Christmas, just the listen for a cold and snowy evening. I loved this story, It’s everything you want in a comfort listen - a second chance at true love with a healthy dose of kink! Kier and Dougie were lovely together, without the angst you usually get in second chance tales.

Gary Furlong, well, what can I say. He’s a fabulous narrator, his accents are perfect and believable and I’d listen to him talk all day....oh yeah, I have!

Bravo Isobel, a warming tale that goes down like Baileys Hot Chocolate!

Story touched my heart

What a beautiful story of love, self-acceptance, and second chances, with a little bit of puppy play thrown in for fun. I adored Dougie and Kier, and my heart did a little happy dance when they found their way back to each other.

Gary Furlong, with his delightful Scottish brogue, was the perfect narrator for this story set in the snowy Scottish Highlands. His voice captured the MCs' emotions wonderfully.

Warm holiday story

This was a fun book for me. Even though the premise of being stranded is nothing new and old lovers reuniting isn’t either, I felt this author made it fresh. Maybe it is that she know how to give such life to her characters I can picture this happening. I’m normally not a puppy or animal play reader but I felt the author did so with such good taste I enjoyed it. I think maybe it was because overall the two were comfortable together even after being separated for five years. I think the narrator did a great job and I feel that contributed to me enjoying this story

Second Chance for Christmas

Isobel Starling writes the best mm Scottish romance and Gary Furlong is the best at bringing her characters to life. Although short this second chance romance still provides the steamy times, snark and feels which is just what I love about her books. Would love to see this couple get a full novel.

Why did I wait so long to listen to this?

I've had Back Where He Belongs in my Audible library for a few months but only listened to it the other day. I needed something short to listen to and found this little gem when I sorted my library by length. When I realized that the book was read by Gary Furlong I knew I'd found the right story to listen to. (I've somewhat recently become a huge fan of Gary's.)

This is the first book with puppy play that I've read/listened to. I wasn't sure how I would feel about it but it really was sweet. The Publisher's Summary tells you what you need to know about the book. I will tell you how wonderful Gary Furlong made this story for me. The different voices this man can do are almost unbelievable.

I love second chance stories and this one was great. Although I think it was easy to predict who Kier's rival is, that in no way diminished my enjoyment of the story. In fact, it had me eagerly anticipating the big reveal.

I will definitely be listening to more books read by Gary Furlong and reading more that are written by Isobel Starling.

*Note: at the time I've written this review the summary indicates that this book includes a free short story. While the ebook does include the short story, the Audible copy does not.

Good Dog, Second Chance M/M

Several years back, Keir ran from a relationship that he was ashamed to make public. That mistake left him unfulfilled and alone. On his first Christmas trip home since leaving, he is forced to face his ex lover Douglas and his roommate Mac. He realizes the consequences of his leaving and the mistake he may never get a chance to rectify.

Isobel Sterling does a grand job at conveying emotions and keeping the settings and conversation real. I found it a little sappy and predictable, but entertaining. She adds a surprise twist with little angst. I had it figured out pretty much from the start, but not everyone will.
Gary Furlong is awesome. I have heard many of his narratives and he never disappoints.

Second chances should be taken when they arise

Short, sweet love story in which a man is stranded in the Scottish Highlands on Christmas Eve. In the middle of nowhere, who comes along and rescues Kier, but his ex-boyfriend Dougie, on his way home for Christmas. Kier has regretted their breakup ever since he caused it 5 years ago. Now he has a chance to make things right. But he finds that Dougie may have someone already.....a fury someone! Dougie lets Kier think his dog is his bf until they reach his house and meets the lovable dog. But is Dougie really unattached and is he willing to forgive Kier for leaving him?

Isobel Starling creates a heartfelt story and characters in a short story with believable characters and situations, and once again, her go to narrator, Gary Furlong does an excellent job narrating the story, the voices and emotions.

Definitely worth a listen, as are all of Starling's books! Pick this up and enjoy the holidays!

Sweet Second Chance Love

This is a sweet, short story about coming home to a second chance at love. It is a story of realizing that what you most want is something you had but let slip away. Five years ago, Kier ended his relationship with Dougie, leaving home rather than accept the depth of his feelings. We get to see the past through the characters memories and the present, as they try to reconnect. For its length, this story is very good. But I think it would've benefited from being longer, allowing for a little more depth between the characters in the present.

As for the narration, Gary Furlong did a great job. His accents helped immerse me in the setting without overwhelming the actual story. He adds emotional weight to the characters, especially Kier's longing. And he helped amp up the kinky, sexy times. Overall, another great narration. I received a copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
