Most families keep their secrets locked away. For Chris McKinnell, the secrets came with the family name.

Chris is the grandson of Ed and Lorraine Warren, the legendary paranormal investigators whose case files inspired The Conjuring and Annabelle films. To millions of horror fans, the Warrens are larger-than-life figures who faced down demons on the big screen. To Chris, they were simply Grandma and Grandpa.

In this episode of Hostage to the Devil, Chris opens up about the people behind the legend. He shares personal memories of growing up in the shadow of two of the most famous names in the paranormal world and what it meant to know them away from the cameras, the crowds, and the darkness they spent their lives confronting.

We also ask the question every fan wants answered: How much of the Hollywood story is true? Chris takes us behind the silver screen to separate fact from fiction, revealing where the movies capture the Warrens' work and where the story drifts into pure cinema.

But the Warren legacy didn't end with Ed and Lorraine. Chris has stepped into the unknown himself, carrying on the family's work with his own paranormal investigations. He talks about what draws him to the unexplained, what he has encountered, and what it's like to walk the same haunted path his grandparents walked decades before.
