A kingdom starved.

A prince's war.

And a young knight standing between ruin and redemption.

When the Wildermen dam the River Walis, the crown rides to break their hold. Lucan marches beneath banners he does not trust, his father beside him, into a campaign that will test all measures of loyalty. From the deep woods of the Wilderlands to the halls of a weary realm, he will learn what it means to lead, and what it costs to keep one's honor when every oath demands a sacrifice.

Even better than the first. Gritty, and feels real. My thanks to the author, I love the way you write. One thing I hope for future books is actual leading armies, gaining glory and fame, I much prefer that to leading small groups and letting other people do the cool army leading stuff. Though it did make perfect sense and was excellently written, just my personal preference. And admittedlt for realistic books like these, you cant very well jump to leading armies successfully and make it still feel real, so i guess its understandable. I just love these so much i dont want to wait for the next one at all! And please if u can do the audiobook quicker next time. Oh and its so good how the author, despite often having large groups in the story, still manages to have a bunch of distinct named characters, and I love ordinary things like him going around the warcamp to recruit, etc. Makes me feel like im in the shoes of a medieval noble. This is my favourite series, hands down. 5/5 excellent read.

Outstanding (possible slight spoilers)

A well narrated low fantasy story that hints of greater magics and dungeons which is barely a part of the story at all.

A reader expecting kingdom building will be left dissapointed 1 almost 2 books in.

A reader expecting level ups, an involved system and a lot of litrpg elements wil be left saddened as well.

Its a good story, interesting characters and a world not fully revealed. It just tries to be something its not, the title is misleading setting up expectations that will not be fullfilled 2 books in.

Call it progression fantasy and a coming of age story and ur left with a good product. Name it kingdom building litrpg and u have a product that doesnt live up to its name.

A kingdom building litrpg that isnt one
