Crown Me Dead took me a little while to get into. I’m not entirely sure why, but I think the slower pacing at the beginning played a part. I’d heard a lot about this book before picking it up, so perhaps my expectations were a little too high going in. For a while, I found myself wondering whether it was going to live up to them.
And then it all kicked off.
Once the pacing cranked up, I became much more invested and really started to enjoy the story. The plot twists were well done and kept me interested, although I do wish there had been a little more world-building. The kingdom felt surprisingly small, with much of what we see narrowed down to Elara’s home and the castle. I don’t need pages of history and geography to enjoy a fantasy, but I was left with questions about the wider world that I would have liked answered.
The characters were also a little difficult for me to pin down. Elara definitely had the most depth, and even when I didn’t necessarily agree with her choices, I could understand why she made them. Kael and Vale were harder for me. I struggled to fully connect with or root for either of them, which meant the twist towards the end didn’t hit me quite as hard as I think it could have if they had felt more fully developed.
That said, there was some genuinely beautiful prose throughout, the plot twists worked well, and once I got past my initial struggle, I really did enjoy the read.
It wasn’t perfect for me, but it certainly left me curious enough to see where the story goes next.
I’ll definitely be reading book two.

Liv Zander never lets me down. Her books are amazing, twisty, rivetting and with perfect spice. The narrators for this production give it their all. I wish I could give more than five stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Liv Zander Delivers AGAIN

I absolutely loved both of the previous duets from this author. This is my first audio version of her work. The story I very much enjoyed, however this would have worked so much better as duet narration, rather than the female narrator performing male dialogue and vice versa.

Another amazing LZ duet.. narration style fell slightly short

A dark (gore) gothic fantasy that is fast paced with morally grey characters, strong romantic tensions and really good twists. Excellent dual narration worth a credit. Excited for book 2.
