There are only two choices: Level up or die.
Nick thought his dreams had come true when the System came to Earth. He watched his civilization burn to ash eleven minutes later. But as bad as the apocalypse was, the Mad God Taltos is worse.
He plucked Earth from the heavens and plunged into the beating heart of the labyrinth. A twisting maze of worlds, dimensions, and other planes of existence. Where the rules of the System have been warped by an insane deity and his maleficent minions.
Nick and his fellow survivors must fight to reclaim the world of their birth. To rise from the ashes and find their place in a multiverse filled with magic and monsters, marvels and horrors beyond their wildest imagination.
The odds are long, and Nick has no choice but to go all in. But even when the deck is stacked against him, Nick always plays to win.
From the bestselling author of Skill Eater, experience this gritty, slowburn, apocalyptic LitRPG with a multi-dimensional twist.

It reminds a lot of the first half of Defiance of the Fall book 1 - before the cast grew, when it was mostly a solo levelling affair.
Similar atmosphere and style, thought obviously a very different story.
like DotF, the story is written well enough to enjoy, but unlikely to win any writing awards . Slightly overwritten in places, with a tendency to repeat information, but with heart and a well conceived and paced plot.
Characterisation is good - the MC is likeable and competent, but with a lot of growing to do across book 1
I am now halfway through listening to book 2 am genuinely fond of the MC
The narrator does a good job - it's not Jeff Hayes level of acting but the voices are distinct and well done and the overall delivery is pleasant and easy to listen to.
There are nods throughout to a larger story and i am looking forward to the books expanding the main cast and world.
Good enough to want more
