The Treatment is another gritty and gruesome thriller from bestselling and prize-winning author Mo Hayder. Utterly absorbing, it weaves a horrifying, gut-wrenching and compelling web, making it impossible to put down...or forget. Fans of Stephen King, Stuart MacBride and Karin Slaughter will not be disappointed.

A quiet residential street in south London.

A husband and wife are discovered, imprisoned in their own home. Badly dehydrated, they've been bound and beaten. He is close to death. But worse is to come: their young son is missing.

When Detective Inspector Jack Caffery is called in to investigate, the similarities with events in his own past make it impossible for him to view this new crime dispassionately.

And as he digs deeper - as he attempts to hold his own life together in the face of ever more disturbing revelations about both his past and his present - the real nightmare begins ...

When I first looked at the duration, I wondered if it might run too long, but it felt OK. I got slightly confused partway through between two characters, and I also felt the road to the perpetrator's eventual arrest was a bit circuitous and unnecessary. But the plot was strong and the characters well developed. And as ever, Colin Mace was phenomenal. I have already bought book three

Haunting, harrowing, with a truly emotional gut punch of a conclusion, Mo Hayder’s The Treatment, like its predecessor is not for the feint of heart. Compelling and discomforting.

Her masterpiece.

Not going to lie I did find this hard going because of the subject matter.
DI Jack Caffery finds himself investigating a crime that hits too close to home, a past that Caffery can’t lay to rest is dragged back into the forefront and sends him spiralling.

If you like audio books this narrator does a good job.

A brilliant follow up to Birdman, I listened to the whole thing in two days. Completely addictive and already looking forward to the next one! Be warned, it deals with sensitive subject matter and is extremely dark.

Couldn’t stop listening!
