Özet

Travel along with actor and podcaster Tim Downie as he explores the strange and beautiful places that have shaped British folklore.

Tim brings to life the mystical stories that shape the character of our isles. Push through the bramble and briar to embark on a journey through the seasons, encountering wonders from clowns to coffins, horn dances to blazing tar barrels, punkies to soulcakers.

Filled with detailed insights into hidden mythic sites and stories from the incredible people that keep our folklore fires burning year after year, this book is an invitation to step outside and reconnect with the ebb and flow of the natural world. Rituals reveals how British folklore’s rich tapestry breathes life and power into every season.

Tim’s a natural storyteller and it’s abundantly clear how much he loves sharing his passions with others. I don’t know a thing about British folklore, but now I’ve found myself scouring the web for upcoming folk celebrations and asking friends whether they’d like to partake in some orchard wassailing next year. And somehow, his dulcet tones romanticised the utterly depressing British winter. Maybe I’ll take myself on a sodden, hilly walk next weekend.

Overall, it was a fun, well-written narrative journey peppered with anecdotes, etymological tidbits, and unexpectedly funny asides (which caught me off guard a few times).

Perfect accompaniment to my arduous daily commute
