About this listen
I had a ten-year plan that didn't include losing the fire chief job to a calendar model with a smirk I want to slap and lips I want to kiss.
SOPHIE
The fire hall is my sanctuary, the one place I'm not just a woman in a man's world, but a damn good firefighter. I've earned my stripes, and the Chief's helmet was supposed to be mine. Then he showed up—Nick West, a walking, talking, calendar-worthy fantasy who stole my promotion and my breath in one fell swoop.
He thinks his charm and those chiseled abs will win everyone over, but he doesn't know me. I'm not just another conquest. I'm his competition. But every time we're together, the space between us crackles with a different kind of heat. This isn't just a battle for the top spot anymore—it's a fight against an attraction that could burn us both. I've spent my life being the first one in, but with Nick, I'm terrified I'll be the first to fall.
First In: Cheeky with the Fire Chief is a steamy, contemporary romance and the first stand-alone in the Mixed Six-Pack series.

This story turned out to be completely unexpected, and I LOVED THAT ABOUT IT! Honestly, I’m not even sure what I was “expecting”, but even without knowing, I know I got a lot more. It was entertaining, flirty and sexy. Yes, it had a few “moments” that may have made my eye twitch (lol) but the overall vibe of this story was really great! This author is new-to-me with this book and now I’m looking forward to reading and/or listening to the rest of this series.
Before I go into the story itself, I want to just say how fantastic it was to listen to it. 🎤Verla Bond & Wyeth Watts🎤 did a really great job bringing this story to life. They captured Sophie & Nick perfectly to me and their range was very versatile, which is always great a dual narration.
The best aspect of this story is its “every day” feel. Sophie and Nick are everyday people dealing with everyday circumstances. That is to say they’re what you would call middle class people. It’s refreshing to read a story about “every day” people and circumstances. They’re the “people next door” of you will and I really liked that those were the lives they were living. It makes relating to the story that much easier.
My least favorite part of the story was the main conflict and all I’m going to say is that adults were not adulting correctly and that is super frustrating. There’s miscommunication and then there’s lack of communication and both of these things are “conflict circumstances” and when you have both be part of the story arc *deep breath* it’s just frustrating and unnecessary.
Well, these are my 2 cents on this story :) Don’t spend them all at once!

Wyeth Watts and Verla Bond bring this gem to life. Watts is amazing as Nick. He is confident yet vulnerable and Watts knows it! Each nuance makes Nick realistic, and exactly the man he is. Bond has a way of finding the personality of her characters and as Sophie she is spot on. She knows what she wants, but getting there is tough. She lets Sophie gain her backbone and become the woman she is. I enjoyed these two and their performance.

The story started really strong. I liked the premise and the humor and the writing style. I'd like to try another book by this author in the future. In the case of Nick and Sophie, a very simple miscommunication was blown way out of proportion. Fortunately, there was more to the story than just the relationship which I really appreciated. It can be read entirely as a stand alone.
I received a copy of this audiobook at my request, but the opinions here are my own.

Nick is dealing with some turmoil when it comes to his family as well. The opportunity to be the chief of the volunteer fire department would allow him to show his worth until he can get a job at a bigger department. He can’t deny his attraction for Sophie however their relationship is filled with complications including the fact that he is her boss.
With everything that life throws at her Sophie’s strength and resilience is unparalleled while Nick doesn’t always make the right choices he too has had a lot to overcome. Verla Bonds portrays the many facets of Sophie’s personality while Wyeth Watts brings out the intense heat between them.
