“On behalf of the forests that I love, thank you, Paul, for writing this book.”—Jane Goodall
Deep in the Peruvian jungle, there exists a corner of the world that remains untouched—one teeming with giant anacondas, where the haunting cries of howler monkeys send brightly colored macaws shooting across the canopy. It’s an ecosystem of stupendous biodiversity, uncontacted tribes, and adventures that most people don’t even dare to dream of.
When he first set foot in the jungle, Rosolie was a dyslexic kid from Brooklyn who struggled to graduate from high school but had an undeniable calling to the outdoors. He was lucky enough to meet the indigenous naturalist Juan Julio Durand, and together, over two decades, they have created Junglekeepers, an organization that has found a way to halt deforestation and protect more than 110,000 acres—inspiring millions along the way by documenting their progress online. But this work takes grit, and years in, Rosolie and Durand are past their “barefoot machete days,” grappling with chain saws, massive fires, illegal miners, and the worst of humanity. Here, Rosolie brings you up close and personal with one of the wildest places on the planet and tells the incredible story of “first contact” with one of the most mysterious uncontacted tribes on Earth: the Mashco Piro.
This book is about the profound power of saying yes: yes to one’s calling, yes to sticking with your dream when it comes at a high cost, and yes to taking a stand to save what might otherwise be gone in a generation. It’s a story of calling, connectedness, and hope.

Praise for Junglekeeper
“[Paul] Rosolie profoundly understands the necessity of seeing a place if one is to be
moved to protect it, and he enlists his language powerfully in this mission with rich,
poetic passages capturing the light of treetops at dawn, the darkness of untouched jungle
at night, and the magnificence of confronting rarely seen species up close. . . . A call
to confront today’s acute environmental threats with a combination of persistence,
adventure, and awe.”—Kirkus Reviews
“Refreshingly optimistic about the future, rejecting ‘antihuman’n narratives . . . Honest yet hopeful, this will provide plenty of inspiration for budding conservationists.”—Publishers Weekly

I studied Environmental Science and spent years travelling the world working on conservation projects — including time in the Peruvian Amazon — so this book didn’t just inform me, it spoke to me. Life has pulled me away from the field in recent years, but reading Paul Rosolie’s words felt like being gently (and then firmly) called back. Back to purpose. Back to urgency. Back to wonder.
Rosolie’s passion for the natural world radiates from every page. His storytelling is visceral, poetic, and deeply human — you don’t just read about the jungle, you feel it breathing around you. The writing is stunningly beautiful: raw, reverent, sometimes terrifying, often hopeful. It’s rare to find someone who can balance scientific understanding with such emotional depth and narrative power, but Rosolie does it effortlessly.
I first listened to Junglekeepers on Audible — and loved it so much that I immediately bought a physical copy. This is a book you want to hold, reread, underline, and keep close. His work in the field, and his ability to translate that work into words, is profound and vitally important. His respect for nature — not as something to dominate, but something to protect, listen to, and coexist with — is unmistakable.
I’ve been incredibly lucky to meet Jane Goodall also (at a talk at RGS in London), someone I considered a personal hero since I was a little girl, and reading Junglekeepers gave me that same feeling of deep admiration and resonance. I loved hearing about Paul’s incredible conversations with Jane and her obvious compassion, wit, honesty and support. That rare sense of encountering someone who doesn’t just care about the planet, but has devoted their life to defending it — fiercely, intelligently, and with humility, was Jane, the woman I admired so much and Paul clearly has that gift too.
As a parent raising three boys, this book feels even more important. I will make sure all of them read it. The world they’re inheriting needs empathy, courage, and a profound respect for nature — and Junglekeepers embodies all three.
This book didn’t just inspire me. It reignited something I thought I’d lost. It reminded me why conservation matters, why stories matter, and why the fight for our wild places is worth everything.
Possibly my favourite read — ever. 🌿 Thank you Paul.

What moved me most was not just the adventure, but the purpose behind it. Learning about the conservation work he’s doing and the deep respect he has for the ecosystem and the people connected to it left a lasting impression on me. The book is inspiring without ever feeling preachy, it simply invites you to care.
I’m so grateful to have read this story and to better understand the importance of protecting these wild places. It’s also been meaningful to share what I’ve learned with my children, sparking conversations about nature, responsibility, and how one person’s passion can make a real difference.
