1961. On a sweltering summer’s day, while her family picnics by the stream on their Suffolk farm, 16-year-old Laurel hides out in her childhood tree house, dreaming of the bright future she can’t wait to seize. But before the idyllic afternoon is over, Laurel will have witnessed a shocking crime that changes everything.

2011. Now a much-loved actress, Laurel finds herself overwhelmed by shades of the past. Haunted by memories and the mystery of what she saw that day, she returns to her family home and begins to piece together a tale of three strangers from vastly different worlds – Dorothy, Vivien and Jimmy – who are thrown together in wartime London and whose lives are fiercely and fatefully entwined.

Loved the twists and turns of this book. Well narrated and the characters really came to life. Another great book by this author.

Enjoyable listen

Loved the story in the end but found it had too much detail initially of the characters early life,

Slow to get going

Brilliant storyline with well crafted characters throughout. Amazing twist at the end and beautiful ending. I love the way that Kate Norton writes. I thought the narrator did well but do agree with some other comments on the pace - I worked out fairly early on that if you put it at 1.2x speed, it is much more realistic to that of a normal narration. I wonder if it somehow got slowed down in the post-production process?! All in all a brilliant, brilliant book, thoroughly recommend!

Wonderful story with even better plot twist to culminate

Great story, not predictable at all, really enjoyed it. I was worried about the length of the book at first, but don’t let this put you off!

Brilliant

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, which was spiked slightly but the overly slow and pausey narration - but this was overcome but speeding it up to 1.2x speed.

Another cracker from Kate Morton
