A Sultry Historical Noir Packed with Espionage, Desire, and Sizzling WLW Tension

New York City, 1943. From jazz clubs to back alleys, passion and peril collide in this slow-burn sapphic love story that simmers through every twist and turn.

Nightclub singer–turned–OSS spy Kathryn Hammond has a past she can’t outrun and a mission she can’t afford to fail. But when fearless reporter Jenny Ryan becomes her assignment, sparks fly and everything starts to unravel.

Jenny is fire and fury seeking justice for her father’s murder. Kathryn is ice and regret behind a voice like sex and sin. Neither planned on the slow burn between them. Neither is ready for what it will cost them.

In a world where a lingering glance can be dangerous and a kiss can be fatal, their forbidden desire threatens Kathryn’s mission and places Jenny in the crosshairs of a ruthless enemy. When love becomes a liability, which woman will pay the price?

In the Shadow of the Past is a sapphic noir awash in Old Hollywood cinematic glamour that will delight fans of femme fatales, wartime subterfuge, and love that cuts like a knife.

This is the first book in the lush, sapphic historical fiction Shadow Series. Buy it now and lose yourself in Abby Craden’s unforgettable narration of Kathryn and Jenny’s epic love story, where the greatest threat might not be the enemy but the longing in their own hearts.

Buckle up … it’s going to be a deliciously bumpy ride!

Hard to believe a women as suave, and worldly as Cat would be attracted to someone as immature, and headstrong as Jenny! On the whole I liked the story, even though I’m left feeling like I’m not sure if I want to read the next instalment!

Good Story

Loved the story. Need to read the next 2 books now. A great story with lots of drama. Some very frustrating moments, desperate for the characters to cross a line.

The first time I’ve listened to anything by this author. It was good, I enjoyed it. It was/is a little long winded and drawn out but still enjoyable. The narration was as always, exceptional.

I am generally not one for writing reviews, I will fill in the stars but there it stops. This series of books on the other hand are so good, I felt compelled to leave a review.

The writing is superb and the author had definitely do her research. I was hooked from the first word in book one, to the last in book 4. Apart from when asleep I haven't been able to stop listening. As ever Abbey Craden has done a great job with the nutrition.

I have listened to all for books in just over 5 days! I turely can not recommend them highly enough. It has some very steamy bits, but then it also had me cringing with the brutally in place's. But these bits are very short and could be much worse. I turely CAN'T Recommend this series highly enough. I am confident that if you buy them you will not be disappointed at all.
