Summary

An investigation leads DI Kelly Porter back to her former command...and the ex who betrayed her.

A brutal murder in the Lake District. A double assassination in a secret lab in London’s West End. Seemingly unconnected, unexpected links between the gruesome crimes emerge, and it’s up to DI Kelly Porter to follow the trail - all the way to the capital.

Back among old colleagues and forced to work alongside her calculating ex, DCI Matt Carter, Kelly must untangle a web of deceit that stretches into the highest echelons of power - a place where secrets and lies are currency and no obstacle is insurmountable.

Bold Lies

Another excellent story in this series set in Cumbrian. Once again, plenty of twists and turns in a complex storyline. Very enjoyable!

Love this series

I like the main characters in this series, hearing their back stories, and getting to know a tiny bit about life in the Lake District. This story had a really thought provoking plot, was reasonably plausible, and complicated enough to make my brain hurt. The narrator is excellent too. Highly recommended.

How big Pharma always wins

My favourite of the series so far. Just so close to the truth it's uncomfortable

Bit hard to follow

I found this hard to follow, almost too much going on. I still like this series, but this is definitely not my favourite.

A proper page turner, but…

The Kelly Porter books are real page turners, but I find the narration terrible. It’s clunky and disjointed, with pauses breaking up sentences in the wrong places.
The use of Americanisms also annoys me. We say post-mortem, not autopsy; murder, not homicide etc etc. And there’s far too much obvious exposition.

Book ruined by narrator

I like the series but I really struggle to listen because of the appalling reading. She pauses at the wrong place in sentences, which is annoying and really off putting. This is my third try ….. but I give up - will never ever listen to a book narrated by Clare Kissane again.
