Summary

Workaholic insurance attorney Luke Darringer has it all: money, looks, ambition. Sure, he hasn’t taken a vacation in over a decade, and his personal life is almost nonexistent - but that’s a small price to pay in order to maintain strict control, and minimize his vulnerabilities.

But then Luke’s firm, with the help of his cheeky administrative assistant Charlotte, strong-arms him into becoming the first-ever client of the new Dreamscape Adventures, Inc. The new company promises fantastical vacations to wealthy clients, as well as controlled therapeutic experiences to individuals suffering from various forms of mental illness, such as autism and PTSD. They’re a potentially huge client for Luke’s firm, but they need liability insurance before they can get off the ground. Luke expects he'll have a quick little canyoneering adventure like he did back in his college days, and then get right back to the grindstone.

But Luke’s adventure doesn’t quite go the way he planned. Eli, the entrepreneur in charge, assures Luke that the glitches are nothing to worry about, and they’ll have things under control again in no time. Instead, Luke soon finds himself in a wilderness of questionable reality, where he is responsible not only for his own safety, but also Charlotte’s, Eli’s, and that of a nonverbal autistic boy whose vulnerability strikes a bit too close to home. Forced to confront his past and his deepest fears, Luke must decide whether to rewrite history and become the man he's always wanted to be - or whether instead he is doomed to repeat it.

Disappointing.

The awesome C. A. Gray totally disappoints on this one even so that Hollywood took the idea for a futuristic TV show.

Matthew E Berry narration is beautifully done for each of the characters.

A diamond in the rough

I was completely blown away by this extremely well written fantasy book, a story of self discovery, that has quite a few unexpected turns. some parts I was 'I know this isn't real' BUT! still had me holding my breath, my full attention as i was carried along feeling as though I was actually there.
This book deffinatly took me on a journey.
It's brilliant!
The narration is superb, really giving it life and bringing the story to into it's own, the character are great, the whole build up and delivery are incredible, the whole book start to finish is flawless.

A different perspective

The book is good and well narrated. It approaches the arrival of VR from a very different perspective and this allows it to take the story in quite a different direction. I recieved a review copy of this book.

Neither great, nor terrible

This is an ok piece of light entertainment, Luke Darringer is an annoying man right from the start, so I was delighted when he was forced (entirely against his will) to join the Dreamscape Adventure.
It all goes downhill from there, for Luke that is, it's amusing in parts, boring in parts, and sad in other parts, it's middle ground, both in narration and in storytelling, don't let anyone tell you otherwise, if you have a big wishlist I would not recommend putting this at the top, if, however, you are stuck for ideas on what to listen to next then give this a go, but only if you're stuck for ideas.

I received a free review copy in exchange for my review.

Unique approach

This is the story of a lawyer to takes an adventure in a new Dreamscape adventure to ensure it is acceptable to be insured by his firm. AS luck would have it things don't go as planned and he is stranded within the VR dreamscape and has to take charge to ensure his small group survive.

This is a very good book. It is entertaining and the narration is great.

This book was provided free of charge with expectation of an honest review.

very well read

I've had to stop listening to this after getting about halfway through, mainly out of frustration with the main protagonist but also because a story about mental health is the last thing I need to hear when I'm dealing with my own. The story is meant to be a mind bender I think, but I just got more and more frustrated and depressed.
I was offered a code for the book in return for an honest review. I'm just sorry I got the opportunity when I'm in a bad headspace. I think that if I weren't dealing with these issues, I would probably enjoy the story.
As for the narrator, he did a great job, he needs to work on his female voices a bit, but sadly the female characters were written a little on the simpering side.
