About this listen
Anneke’s typical day at the office is thrown into disarray when she finds her next patient is an unwitting werewolf. And it doesn’t end there.
From the moment Caleb Kitt walks into Doctor Anneke Lund’s office for his psychiatry session, she knows his problem isn’t mental. He’s been experiencing night terrors, having violent and bloodthirsty dreams, and waking up naked in strange places. But he’s not losing his mind, as he suspects. He’s actually a werewolf - he just doesn’t know it yet.
Anneke isn’t just a psychiatrist - she’s also an empath, meaning she can read minds, and influence thoughts and behavior. She rarely uses her powers, but recognizes she may have no other choice as Caleb must be convinced of his supernatural status before the next full moon arrives. When it does, though, she finds herself going way beyond her duty of care to ensure Caleb doesn’t hurt or kill anyone when he transforms. But at what cost?
Please note: A Werewolf State of Mind was previously published in Coming in Hot: Rescue Me boxed set.
©2018 Lucy Felthouse (P)2019 Lucy FelthouseI loved every minute of this story. First and foremost, because it’s different. I thought I’d read so many romance stories that I could predict exactly how this would go. But I was wrong and that made it new and exciting. The characters have chemistry and it doesn’t feel ridiculously rushed like so many stories do. It takes its time, builds up to the payoff, and then it ends. Damn, why did it have to end/ I had temporarily forgotten it was a short story and I died a little inside when I heard the credits.
The summary (the Audible one at least) is exactly what you get. It gets in, tells its story, wraps things up nicely while leaving room for a follow-up. A follow-up I would totally read. These two are adorable together.
Aside from having to listen to the narrator mispronounce envelope several times, the narration is great. “Onvelope” isn’t a word and that will never stop annoying me. Envelope is envelop with an e on the end. Nobody says onvelop because that’s stupid.

This story may be short but it wasn't missing anything, just concentrating on the two characters meant you got to know them really well.
I enjoyed the conversations between the two of them, they got angry, annoyed, snappy and flirty - it made it easier to like them when you could see neither was perfect.
The narration was excellent, I love listening to English accents, I would definitely listen to more from the same narrator.
Short, but sweet

This story is definitely interesting and quite unusual for this genre. It was quick and easy to listen to though i wish it were a little longer so that the audience got a little more insight into the development of the romantic relationship between the two protagonists.

Short and unusual for paranormal romances

All round, excellent!

I would be interested in hearing more from this narrator in future, and maybe even trying a different story from this author. But preferably a longer one in hopes that I’ll get more from the characters to believe in their connection and to get invested in their HEA.
