Critic reviews
"Hooked from the very first page...I finished The Child Next Door in less than a day!.... I was left staring open-mouthed at the last page because I just couldn't believe what I just read...left me both speechless and wanting for more." (It's All About Books)

struggled to finish, very predictable
the main character was quite predictable, and unrealistic, and it was so annoying how her husband kept saying Kirst all the time

Enjoyed the twists.
This book captures you quickly and you soon become hooked on the residents of Magnolia Close.
As my first book by Shalini Boland I will certainly be reading others.

Good and bad
I thought the story was very good, nice twists at the end, detailed story telling and very good narrator, but the pace was extremely slow in the first half. The story moved so slow that after a few chapters I talked myself into sticking with it and not giving up! It's fine to build a story and gradually reach the highlight of the plot, but there were far too many chapters of main character submising, repeating actions, and predictable outcomes. Nothing of consequence begins to happen till after chapter fourteen! The Las ten chapters were riveting.

Disappointing storyline
I am 3/4 of the way through this book. This is the first book I have listened to by this author and I am disappointed. The storyline is incredibly repetitive and very little has happened so far. I will listen to the end but it is neither gripping or particularly original. It is slow and the main character is annoying and frankly boring. I have downloaded others so hope they are significantly more gripping than this one.

Good Narration, frustrating character
I listened to the full book as I wanted to know what happened but I found myself rolling my eyes and being insanely frustrated with the lead character.
I had read other reviews which talked of this amazing twist at the end but I found it quite bizarre. The main story ended not with a big twist but a reveal which was neither shocking or particularly surprising considering how the story unfolded. Then there was an additional element which was the suggested big twist, I assume to keep us thinking and hope for a second book but it just came across as bizarre and pasted onto the end.
It is ashame, the concept is great but it really fell flat for me.
