Summary

Danni Morgan thought she knew fear, but she is about to find out what it is to be truly afraid.

Years ago, a young girl ran away from her childhood home and vowed never to go back. It was a place of fear, pain, and misery at the hands of an abusive father.

But now, her father is dead, and she is forced to break that vow and return home - to lay his body to rest and face up to the ghosts of her past.

However, Danni is about to learn that some ghosts are more real than others.

Something beyond her understanding waits for her there, lurking in the shadows. An evil that intends to kill her family and claim her very soul.

Experience supernatural horror in the vein of The Conjuring, Insidious, and the legendary Ghostwatch. The Demonic will get under your skin, send chills down your spine, and have you sleeping with the lights on!

Plot holes

I'm sorry I hate to give bad reviews, but this has 5 star's. This book has so many plot holes and impossible situations I'm finding it hard to even finish.

A wonderful ghost story

Listened to this in my car on my daily commute, and I this one deginitely helped to keep me awake!

The story is well written and narrated, as I have come to expect from the excellent pairing of the writer and narrator (having previously listened to the just as excellent Horror In The Woods).

I would highly recommend this to any fan of the supernatural genre, as it is a great example of a classic ghost story.

Sorry but this had nothing for me.

If you aren’t into Horror then you may enjoy this as an introduction but if you have a background in it you may find this hard going.

The story is incredibly unoriginal, there’s not a new idea or original take to be found.
The narration style doesn’t much help.

Now I may be judging too early but with two hours left to listen I’m writing this review.
You may say that this is unfair but this will be the first book I haven’t finished. I just can’t listen anymore.
Not sure what it is that jars with me, but the style of writing comes across as immature.

Just not for me sorry.

Just awful

Amateurish, cliched, over-baked writing. Unimaginative characters with over the top, clunky dialogue. Zero chills. Predictable story line and devices (plot very close to other similar titles currently available). And the narration performance is just awful. The narrator is cursed with monotonous rhythym through the whole book and delivers dialogue with very little character or inspiration. Spare yourself.

An ok listen

Im trying these books as I've finished all from my favourite author.
It was a good listen,I've heard better but one thing i found surprising is the amount of swearing in the book....I've just never listened to other books with swearing in & although it was fitting i guess within the story line it started to sound odd!The narrative was ok,sometimes takes a while to get used to a new voice...im going to give book 2 a go....see how i get on!

It's ok

This is not a ghost story, it is a story about demonic posession except it's not really even that or it would just be another ''Shining'' rip off, it is about posession but the 'creature' is apparently not even a demon, it's THAT bad ... This whole story is ok, that's the best I can say of it, I did finish it but I was very glad when it ended, and I might add, the ending was about as predictable it gets. Yes, I've watched hundreds of horror films and I've read even more horror stories so yes, I've read or seen this particular ending dozens of times.

The narrator is ok but he does make the infernal thought ramblings (I intentionally use the word infernal rather than internal here) more excruciating that they need to be with his slow speech so I knocked off a star for that, also I can't stand the way he pronounces the word 'and' as 'end' .

This is not the worst book and I'm sure many will enjoy it, I was not one of them however.

I received my copy free of charge in exchange for a frank and honest review.

Not horror, horrible

Where to start with this awful, awful 'Novel'.

Story - predictable, unoriginal, boring
Characters - dull, annoying, illogical, unbelievable
Writing - Simple, immature, jarring, annoying

If Stephen King somehow had all his talent sucked out, had a stroke, died, became a mindless zombie then smacked his now rotting hand against a piece of used toilet paper it would be better book than this.

Then we get to the reading - Jesus wept it's terrible. It's amazing really how it can be monotonous, boring and unbearably cheesy at the same time but this guy manages it.

I am amazed I finished it but was almost worth it for the huge unintended laugh I had when the Demon speaks!!!

Utter Guff - narration tolerable on 1.3 speed

I bought this as I had read some good reviews and I love a good horror story - I have read a lot of Stephen King and other horror writers of all eras and have watched many horror movies.
Sadly this was utter tripe.
The narration is terrible- the man has a very monotonous voice and it drones on- his attempts at female voices sound like pantomime dames and it’s only made worse by the terrible dialogue.
I found it became tolerable at 1.3x speed but even then it was a chore to listen.
The story itself is awful.
The characters are poorly written with no depth. None of them are likeable and the adults don’t have an ounce of common sense between them.
The author has just taken any old tropes he could find and stuffed them to make a story with no sense- firstly it’s a demon but then it’s not a demon but then it is actually a demon- (the author needs to make up his mind!) and there are ghosts that you can get rid of just by burning down the house but actually as the source of the evil is an old mill and not the house how does that even work?
One character is disabled but instead of it being written in an inclusive positive way, it’s a reason other characters are held back and it’s definitely a negative - which as a disabled person I didn’t find enjoyable.
Honestly I couldn’t wait for it to end. Save your time and credits.

The Demonic 👎🏾

I really didn’t think much of the story or the narration it just got boring very quickly but that’s my opinion you should decide if it’s your kind of thing Definitely a big thumbs down 👎🏾 from me sadly
